The general storyline is interesting enough- The Porter sisters were deserted by their father at a young age and now their once-strong and independent mother is old and ill and decisions need to be made about her future care. One sister, Jane, has a tremendous secret that she feels is ready to be revealed (that’s why she returns to her hometown) even though it upsets her ill mother and caretaking sister to think about this secret becoming public after so many years. The story (and secret) involves a forbidden romance and I found myself skimming through chapters because of its predictability. The end is satisfying, as I someone knew it would be, but the writing lacks depth and in the end I felt as though I’d read a script for a soap opera.
