Do the Gabriel Allon novels have to be read in order?  (I should say listened to in order).  I bought some of the later ones on audio from Amazon's big clearence sale. I just put book 1 on hold at the library. But if they can be read out of order I'll read the 3 I have here first.  Or well read the 1 print one I have and listent the 2 on audio.  (part of me is afraid I'll hate #1 and then not want to listen to the 2 audio books I just bought).

OK just picked up some beautiful hardcovers from Laura Childs and a Maggie Sefton at the FOL sale today.  I put Knit One Kill Two on hold from teh library. But the LCs I have are all later in teh series.  I read books 6,7, and 8 out of order will the whole series be ruined for me?  With the TBR beign so huge I just thinking I'd like to try one of the ones I have before I track down books 1-5.

I'm bumping this because it seems to have gotten lost amongst all the challenge threads.

I would say that depends - There are certain people who weave into Gabriel Allon's life, and the relationships are affected by what happens, but each book is a complete stand alone and each story ends.  It's rather like reading any mystery series with ongoing characters.  It's NOT like reading many paranormal series where each book lays the groundwork for the next one and lose a good deal by not having read the previous books.

OK thanks. I think I will just give one of the ones I have a go first before I try to acquire more.  I have a huge TBR and am trying to get out of the habit of getting all of a series before I know if I even like it or not.
