In this, the 3rd book in Christine Feehan's Dark (Carpathian) series, the story line seems to have become a little formulistic: girl meets tall, dark, handsome stranger, who turns out to be a Carpathian male, said alpha male saves girl's life and discovers she is his life mate, girl is inexplicably drawn to male but fights the attraction, girl is again placed in danger but comes to trust male and eventually they live happily ever after.

Besides the same story, Feehan tends to repeat certain descriptions throughout the book. I counted at least 3 times she explained about the difference between a Carpathian and a Vampire. I've almost given up on this series, but I've heard that it starts to get better around book 5, and since I have up through book 5 here, I figured I'd at least give it that long and then decide whether to proceed from there.

Since I'm not a huge fan of romance for the sake of romance, if it doesn't have some other mystery or action going on in the story, I was hoping for a bit more in this one as well. Yes, Alex was put in danger a couple of times, as was her little brother Josh, but never at any point did you wonder about whether they'd actually be able to save themselves. And it seemed a smaller part of the story than the attraction between Aidan and Alex, which makes this a romance book first and foremost.

One thing I think Feehan does do well is character development. Her character descriptions are so vivid, if a bit too flowery at times, so that you can clearly picture the characters in your head, and understand their actions and reactions. It is only because of this that I'll give this book the benefit of the doubt and give it a halfway rating, as I feel romance readers would probably appreciate it more than I.

Another juicy tale about a Carpathian Hunter, Aidan Savage. He meets his lifemate, Alexandria, while rescuing her from the clutches of a vampire. Alex must be one of the stupidest heroines of this series. Aidan saves her life several times, provides a safe haven within his home for her and her brother Joshua, and treats her with care and kindness. Yet she persists throughout most of the story, to fear Aidan may be a vampire. That's when she believes he's a vampire; other times she believes Aidan really has some evil plan that he'll spring on her somewhere down the road. All these suspicious feelings, yet she's supposed to have psychic abilities. Of course, like all Carpathian males, Aidan is tall, muscular and just plain gorgeous. Except he's blonde instead of dark. Alex is described as beautiful, petite and curvy. Does Feehan know that if Alex doesn't want Aidan there are lots of women reading this book who wouldn't mind at all taking Alex's place. Make him forget about this lifemate thing....or put together a tour to the Carpathian mountains; women only. Despite Alex's attitude, untill she succumbs to Aidan's charms, this story is definitely a good read.

I have read the first two and this one and this one is the one that I liked the least. My favorite so far is Dark Prince, the first one.

I really, really liked Aidan in this book however I thought Alexandria was not a good fit for him. She was such a weak character that at points I just could not stand her. But overall I did read it and I liked it I just did not love it.

This being the 3rd book in the dark series I was really surprised that it kept me so interested. It has it's own very unique story line and is a continuation of the story from the other books. This is Julian and Alexandria's story and is well worth reading. I totally enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to give it a try.

Christine Feehan is one of my favorite authors! This story of Carpathian Aidan Savage and artist Alexandria Houton was fast-paced with excellent development of the good- and bad-guys.

I really did like this book. If you are a fan of the Carpathians you will really enjoy reading it. I found myself getting upset with Alex's reaction to becoming Carpathian, but then I thought, how would I feel. Yeah, I'd be upset. I think that she did a good job with the story line. It's got to be difficult to make a different story line every time and yet maintain the plot line that flows through the entire series. Good as a stand alone, but put together with the other stories, it's even better. It's not the best book ever, but close.

For anyone that reads all of the Dark series, this particular book is about Aidan, Julian's twin brother, who is a Carpathian and his finding of his lifemate. Aidan and Julian have been mentioned in other books and it is interesting to see Aidan brought to life here.

Dark Gold is a book that can stand on its own if you haven't read the others in the series. A young woman named Alexandria is targeted by vampires, and she is trying to protect her young brother. Just when things are at their worst, a golden being, Aidan, appears and saves them. Or has he? Is he a god, a man, or a monster? Alex must decide, and her decision could condemn them to death, or give them life, and love for all etern

While I totally love the series and these amazing carpathian heros...the chick in this book needs a good spanking! (oh wrong book!) She is fighting against him for no reason and after the 3rd time its really old..and dumb, but you will still love the book and not want it to end!
