This book is one of those that got under my skin and pulled me along spellbound. It is a cold book filled with a constant sense of dread and foreboding. There are black and white pictures at the beginning of each chapter that add to the creepy atmosphere. It builds slowly and is told mostly as journal entries as days go by and events occur. I loved reading it but it has some brutal things that were hard to read. It had me so worried and tense near the end (with good reason!) but it redeemed itself more than I thought it would (whew!). It was still somewhat bleak and rough in some ways but mostly a satisfactory ending.
