This is my first read by this author. I found the subject to definitely be original if a little far-fetched. I liked the look into the world of search dogs. The dialogue was stilted at times -- especially in the sex scenes. I "read" this on audio and will give Iris Johansen another listen.

I hadn't read anything by this author, though her name was well-known to me. I just didn't know what I was missing. It has enough plot twists and turns to keep even Sherlock Holmes whirling, and enough scary stuff to rival Preston & Child.
From back cover: It begins with a single shot.
Devon Brady is a devoted veterinarian working in a makeshift hospital on a remote search and rescue mission. When a man arrives with his wounded black Lab, Ned, she has no idea that she is about to be plunged into a whirlwind of terror and destruction.
Jude Marrock is out for revenge and has no choice but to involve Devon in a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game with an escalating body count. She doesn't trust him one bit, but when the shots start flying and friends start falling, she finds herself with nowhere else to run. And there are innocent lives, both human and animal, at stake, including Ned and his mysterious pack. Is Jude her salvation or her damnation? Are the secrets he's protecting worth killing for . . . or dying for?
With a lightning-fast pace, unforgettable characters, and gut-wrenching action, Dark Summer is compelling new terrain for this master storyteller.

Great thriller!
Once again, Iris Johansen keeps readers on the edges of their seats. This book is about a veterinarian, Devon Brady, who treats a dog left in her care while on a search and rescue mission. The owner trusts her to get his dog home after he disappears and thus involves her in a deadly game to obtain the dog at any cost. Devon becomes involved with the dog's owner, Jude Marrok, and learns that the dog has special powers. And he's not alone. There are four others that must be protected from a billionaire who will stop at nothing to gain control of the dogs and do them harm.
This was a good thriller with a few twists and turns.
This wasn't what I expected it to be.
