why are the dates of the posts so out of order w/last year mixed in with 2010? I am new here and wondering...

I'm not sure what you're talking about. All threads on PBS are sorted in order of the last post on the thread, with the most recent being on the top of the page. Are you perhaps looking at the column which lists the date and time the thread was created? If so, then yes the posts will appear to be out of order.
