The story is set in early nineteenth century America on a cattle ranch. Kathleen Morgan weaves a tale of a widow looking for her place in life and God's direction for her. I really enjoyed the book.

Daughter of Joy had a very good message in it. It wasn't the type of book that I just couldn't put down though. I didn't like the Father and daughter at all, but I guess that is what the character was supposed to be so maybe that was good. I feel the Father had a temper which was surprising that the housekeeper didn't deal with his temper as much as she dealt with the problem of him not being spiritual, but maybe that would come later when he found his love for the Lord again. All in all it was a fairly good read but not one that I would read again.

The main couple's story in this book is really good and you get wrapped up in their story. The ending of to the story of the secondary couple in this this book angered me. I don't think I can read this author again after that.
