Susan Cooper writes beautifully, although this book may not be suitable for every young reader. The war doesn't seem real to the schoolboys, but it gets closer -- and then tragedy strikes. From inside the front cover: "Dawn of Fear is a very good way of discovering what it was like to be young during the last World War."
