This is the first true crime book I've read by Corey Mitchell. After reading this book, Mitchell comes close to one of my favorite true crime writers, Jack Olsen. This book is about the kidnapping, torture and murder of 2 women in their 20's by Rex Allan Krebs. These women would have still been alive today if Krebs had served his 20 year sentence instead of the 10 he did serve. Krebs was abandoned by his mother and left in the care of his violent, alcoholic father. He started his violence against women at 12 years old, but the authorities think it may have been earlier. After Krebs received a head injury, his crimes became worse. Krebs confessed to the murders of the 2 girls freely and was given the death penalty. He belonged to the minority of sociopaths - the sadistic killer. It is heartbreaking to read how these murders affected the families of the girls. This book is interesting enough without having to go into too much detail about what was done to the girls. The backgounds of the police investigators are brief and the court testimony is concise without losing any pertinent information. The focus of the book is on Krebs himself: his background and long list of crimes "overlooked" by authorities; on the families of the victims; and, on

This book started out talking about three girls which included a girl named Smart and then her name was dropped. Then mentions a family of three disappearing and then this too is dropped. I am not sure why the author did this, but the rest of the book is well written. I won't repeat what others have written before me but I would like to comment on the head injury. Although the rapist was taken to the hospital and had not only a concussion but brain damage too it seems it wasn't addressed in the hospital. It was mentioned by the defense attorney in the court room but not elaborated on much by the psychiatrist in the court room. This guy was so abused he should have been forced in prison to have psychotherapy. Too many of these type of criminals are set free before there sentence is up.Maybe those poor girls would have been alive today if they hadn't fought back so hard but you never know. This was a good read and worth the time for true crime lovers.

This was another example of a registered sex offender getting released from prison and then committing rapes and murders. Two innocent college girls had to pay the price.
