I was very disappointed in this book. I'm a huge Heather Graham fan, having read all of her historical romances all the way into the present mysteries and paranormal. Normally her books are an excellent read but I felt this one was not. The plot was weak, the characters were not exciting, and the ending sucked beyond belief. To summarize, I felt like she was rushed with this book and the results were blah.
The Dead Room is the prequel to The Death Dealer but certainly is more developed then it's sequel.
Characters are more real and likeable, especially Leslie's.
It's been a year since archaeologist Leslie MacIntyre lost her fiancee Matt Connolly in a devastating explosion and a year in which she developed the ability to communicate with ghost. She sometimes even sees them without first recognising they to the other world. Before the explosion that threw her halfway around a room she had been blessed with hunches which helped her in her job but nowadays she uses her ability to help those lost souls still wandering on earth. When a burial is discovered near the place where Matt dies she decides to accept the offer to work there and finally try to make contact with Matt's ghost - if he is still there.
She's never met Joe, Matt's cousin but when she first meets him she's directly attracted to his resemblance to Matt but soon discovers they are alike but not one and the same person.
Joe, an ex-cop working as private investigator searches for young Genevieve O'Brien who vanished two month ago and he is convinced she's connected to a series of vanished prostitutes in the same area. Due to her work as a social worker she knew the area and it's 'inhabitants' well.
Joe is drawn to Leslie but knows she's been engaged to Matt and still loves him so he's mighty torn between his knowledge and his arising feelings for her. They soon become friends trying to find Genevieve and the secret behind the vanished women who might or might not be dead. Joe believes in Leslie's abilities and together they find pieced to a puzzle that seems insolvable and becoming more and more dangerous for Leslie's life.
this was a good book. I liked how the story progressed and I also liked the plot. At times I wanted to yell at the main character to quit being so stuborn and do what she was told to do to keep safe. Over all it was a quick and good read that I would recommend to others.
I am not much of a writer but I absolutely LOVED this book. There were so many suspects and so many twists and turns to it. If you like books about the afterlife, this one is for you. Heather Graham did an awesome job of bringing ALL the characters to life - even the ghosts. I definitely give this 5 stars and would recommend it to anybody.
I thought the book was well written. I love the charactors from the Harrison Agency. It is full of suspence and kept me on the edge of my seat. I was not sure who the killer was at first and was surprised at the end of the book.
I'm sorry, I usually love Heather Graham and her paranormals, but I just didn't like this one. The synopsis was very misleading, in my opinion. Also, I felt like much of the story was just fluff and filler. It was still a fast read and I didn't lose interest, I was just disappointed.
I really liked this book. Knowing about the paranormal and all I think she was dead on how and when ghost come to someone who is sensitive. They just don't appear on beck and call, it does take at times more than one visit...I greatly appreciate her getting it right. Of course this is my opinion and my experience...Liked the book
Leslie, an archiologist and her fiance Matt were both involved in an explosion of a historical house in Manhattan. Leslie was near death and Matt died. After the explosion, Leslie was able to visualize and communicate with ghost. She returned to Manhattan a year later to do archiological work and to hopefully find Matt's ghost only to become involved in tracking down who was kidnapping women in the area. With the help of ghost and Matt's cousin the mystery intensifies and ends with a real twist. This is a very interesting mystery and a real page turner.
Supernatural thriller with an interesting twist ending. A young urban archaeologist has always seemed to have good instincts about where human remains may be located; but after her fiancee is killed and she is seriously injured in an explosion, she discovers that the instinct has become a skill -- she can now see ghosts.
Leslie MacIntyre talks to dead people...A year ago Leslie barely survived an explosion that killed her husband, Matt. She left town after she recovered but has now returned to investigate a burial ground in lower Manhattan. At night Matt visits her in her dreams but during the day she is attracted to Matt's cousin Joe who she had never met when she was married to Matt.
