"The Slasher" liked his women pretty, poor, and Irish. The first two victims survived their encounters with the mysterious madman, but the third one died. Worried that two of her friends, both working-class Irishwomen, might be in danger, Francesca Cahill begins her own investigation. Having developed something of a reputation as an amateur sleuth, Francesca is used to working with the New York police, and in particular police commissioner Rick Bragg. Although Francesca might be willing to put her own life in danger, her fiance, Calder Hart, is less than thrilled, especially since she is doing so with Rick, who is not only Calder's half brother but also a former rival for Francesca's affections. As Francesca searches for clues and struggles with her complicated feelings for two different men, readers will follow her from turn-of-the-century New York's immigrant tenements to its wealthiest mansions.

Calder Hart is a great hero.
I love this series. Joyce has created such great characters, I can't wait for the next book.
I like her story line but her writing ability is lacking. She is
overly fond of the word "slammed", etc. I find it grating on my
nerves. Also the sex scenes is just that, pure sex and no love
involved, just a wrestling match. She should leave of the sex and
just write a love story.

I really enjoyed reading this series. The Rick-Francesca-Calder love triangle was really intense and sometimes hard to stop reading about.

Mystery and romance. Good read.
Society sleuth Francesca Cahill should be bursting with happiness and glee: she's engaged to suave, rakish Calder Harte, who appreciates her intelligence and independence, and who has promised not to stand in her way. Her newest book like her other ones is just great. " An elegant blend of mystery, and romance simmering with sexual tension." I really like it.
An excellent Joyce story. I had not read her for a long while and bought this because I read a good review. I thinkshe is writing better now. Her older books were getting stale.
