Aside from the wrong forum, a swap/deal should be spelled out in writing on the forum so EVERYONE at the same time knows the ground rules.  You really need to put in your post what is going on instead of "PM for the details" type of thing. You'll get a lot more takers.

Actually that is exactly how R&R said to word a post (in the Book Bazaar) if someone was looking to swap credits from another site for credits here, or something of that nature. They are not allowed to "sell" anything other than PBS credits, but they can have someone PM to negotiate payment for PBS credits with other credits.

You almost got it, just need to get in the right forum. Good Luck.

Melanie: She doesn't make it clear at all as to what she's even talking about. She never mentions the word "sells" so no one, I mean no one, has any idea as to what she's even wanting to do. She uses the word "swap" and "deal."  All very very broad terms.

I will stand by my post that if she spelled out more details she'd get more takers.

Yeah, what Melanie is saying is right.  I think (if I'm remembering correctly) the poster of this was spanked awhile back for being too explicit and saying she wanted to trade credits on this site for credits on another.  All of that has to be done back channel - I'd imagine she was vague intentionally to avoid the same problem she had last time.  It's a different situation than if you are just wanting to a standard PBS deal.

Yes, I understood this to mean that she was hoping to swap credits for points on another site, but isn't allowed to state that here.  I don't know of a way she could be more explicit and give more details to make Susan happy without violating site "no advertising/no selling" rules.

So, I believe her post was correct, just in the wrong place.  It -does- need to be in Book Bazaar.

It's not about making me "happy" it's about posting so she'll get people to look at it. Right now it's already half way down the Book Bazaar page with only 24 views and 0 additional posts - you know the obligatory, "I PM'd you" type thing that bumps it back up to the top.

I'm well aware of the rules and what we can and can't do and I'm not advocating she break the rules. I simply said that she wasn't very clear in what she wanted to do.  I, for one, had no clue and I'm betting I'm not the only one. So they'll just ignore it.

Beyond that - I think we've already established what we need to establish so we probably don't need to beat this to death anymore.

Thanks so much to Robin D, Lisa D, and Melanie D for their input.  If I'm reading their replies right, I did what I was supposed to, how I was supposed to, just in the wrong forum.  I am posting again in the correct (I hope) forum regarding this situation.

I'm sure glad I don't take things too hard.

Deborah

You are absolutely correct that it is unclear and most people won't know what she is talking about and won't respond. But alas this is what the site leaders say she must do, their way of allowing it, but not really. Her only hope is that the people who would want credits from other sites will be familiar with the rule and PM her to ask which ones she has.

It is good to rehash this topic every now and then so that new members are aware of it and know what the criptic posts mean.

I don't want to advocate anything that will get anyone in trouble, but is it permissable for her to state something generic, like:

Offerning deal - point swap with other site.  Please PM me for details on this swap/deal.

This would not be advertising another site, nor offering credits for something other than books.  This might be a good workaround alternative?

Hi Robin,

This comes from Beth, the Tour Guide Leader, too, too many answers:

Hi Deborah,

I'm glad you asked and we investigated! As it happens, you cannot post an offer like that. The loophole that's been left is that you can say something like:

"Is anyone selling PBS Credits? Please PM me"

Then in the PM you can offer your other site credits, you cannot mention them, or even the 'what' that you are offering, in your post.
