What can you do if you make a deal with some one for 4 books for 2 credits, then only recieve the books that you ordered with the credits, I have pm'd this person and have not gotten any answers. I know basically the books were free but it still makes me mad that someone would tell you one thing and do another. 99.9% of the people I have dealt with have been fantastic., but a few have really made me want to send them a pm and tell them what I really think of them.

I don't think there is much you can do.

On the positive side - just me - maybe the person hasn't been online since it is the weekend.  Some  people only have work computers to use or the library.  August many go on vacation.  I don't know when you PM'd them but if it has been awhile and I would say a week. I would PM them again and let them know that if you don't hear by such and such day, you will contact PBS and give them another week. They will not get  involved with the transaction but ignoring PMs isn't acceptable (regarding a transaction).

Did you check to see if their account is on vacation hold?  Just giving the benefit of the doubt.  good luck

Bertie, have you checked to see if the member has read your message? Go to your personal message box and click on 'from me' , then click on the Unread box. Then if the little box has a check by her message from you, she hasn't read it yet.

I am sorry - I would let PBS know so they can watch her account.  Also that she isn't responding to your PMs - and let them know you don't expect them to help - just letting them know.  That is me.

Sorry, this happened to you, Bertie. Sometimes, I think over at BB they over extend themselves. It would be easy to get mixed up with different orders if one has a huge amount of requests for orders like 4/2. Who knows if she sent your freebies to someone else by mistake. I think that is why more members are now setting deadlines such as today only, through Tuesday, August, 18th etc. I think I would send her one more pm. Then like jubead, let PBS know about it. There has even been a thread over there about how crazy things can get on there. lol

Go to your personal message box and click on 'from me' , then click on the Unread box. Then if the little box has a check by her message from you, she hasn't read it yet.  I don't think this tells you if the other person has read you message, the unread button just sorts up the measages you haven't read.

The BB deals are something that the site doesn't moderate, BUT, they will stop someone who makes a habit of offering deals and not following through with them so you should definitely let them know. They also do not tolerate non-communication, so if its been a week and they have not responded to you, they will prompt the other member to talk to you.

I'm with Melanie on the messages read thing. I think that just refers to you and your messages.  I don't think it actually tells you if someone else read the message.

I would give them a week to responde (it's vacation seaon) and then send another PM saying that you are reporting them to PBS.  They won't get you the 2 book but it'll at least put this person in their sites as a possible bad swapper.

Mel, if you choose the "From Me" tab, it will show messages sent that have not been read by the other member.

Dawn I don't think that works that way. I clicked unread and it showed me as all my From Me message as being unread.  Then I clicked on one that I sent the 1st PM and the person responded.  It still showed it as unread.  So I know this person read the message as they replied to it a few days ago.  I read the message 3 times and it still shows as unread.

No way would I let that member continue to advertise her shelf at the Book Bazaar and make phoney deals with other members.

First, I'd wait the appropriate time (a week?) for her to respond and make the deal right. If that went nowhere,  I'd report her to PBS.

If that got nowhere and she was still making deals on BB, I'd get vocal on the BB. I am not respecting a huckster's privacy. No way.

Laura I agree with you all except calling her out on a thread -which could get the OP suspended.  Though I would go to sender's  thread where she offered her deal and add a post  politely saying you are still waiting for the bonus books does she have an ETA?  Continue to ask everyday.

Personally I would let PBS handle it. They will watch her account and close her down if she is repeating the offense.  They have done it in the past - only a couple of months ago when the member wasn't even sending books that there were for credits and others that didn't pay for credits- even if it is while the investigate the issue.

I agree with Melaine and Mary on the personal message.  I just sent a test message to a friend.  She didn't read it because she is offline.  It doesn't indicate that it is unread or read...nothing in red next to the message.  Just fyi

The read/unread thing never worked that way (correctly) in the past. Its been discussed before and obviously read messages were showing as unread. So unless something has been changed/fixed, I wouldn't be cetain that something marked as unread really hadn't been read or that something marked read really had been.

Next to the message for inbound if I haven't read there is red text (unread) but once I read it it disappears.  For sending a mesage - I have no idea if they read or not because there isn't anything indicating either and it doesn't bold out either.  It is just like in your sent items in email - just shows you sent a message.

I have no idea if they read or not because there isn't anything indicating either and it doesn't bold out either.  If you go to the From Me tab and click the Unread button, checkmarks appear in the boxes to the left. In theory, those have not been read.

The reason PBS has the 'Unread' button is to check to see if your messages to other members have been read yet. Otherwise, why would it be there?

I just checked mine, by clicking on 'From Me', then clicking on 'Unread' and found 14 messages out of 50 on that page had not been read by the members that I sent messages to. If I want to check the next page after the first page of 50 messages, I would have to click 'Unread' again for that particular page, and so on.

I think this is a great feature and a hint given by another member here on the forums about a week ago. I now use it alot.

I sent in feedback to ask about this.  So we'll see what they say.

Connie is correct. You can tell if the messages have been read or not.

This is exactly what I meanand it's exactly what I do, Jubead.  Persistant yet polite reminders of her negligence for all to see.

Did the other member respond to your original message about the deal? That is, agree to send the four books? If so, and you don't hear back from your latest messages soon, I'd contact PBS and lodge a complaint. It's true they can't make the other member send the extra books, but if it turns out that there's a pattern of abusing the system (by that member), then PBS needs to hear from you.

Only twice have deal books not been sent to me, and both times the other member sent them in a separate package after I contacted them. In both cases, I didn't mark anything received until I had all the books we'd agreed to.

Connie is correct. You can tell if the messages have been read or not.

Not necessarily. You can tell if the messages have been read here at the PBS site. But if you have messages forwarded to an email account, it's possible to read them there without ever looking here (although long messages would be truncated).

Let me rephrase. You can tell if the message has been read here on PBS.

That's very true that you can tell if the messages have been read here on PBS. But, if a member has not read the message on their account page, the message will continue to stay on their account page until they read it. This would mean that a member that  only reads their messages through emails never or rarely ever goes to their account page. Or, they only select their messages they want to read?

ok - with the information from Connie -which I never clicked read or unread before because if it works like email you can click on a message and either mark it read or unread.  So went to my "From Me" tab and I clicked the button "UnRead"   there messages automatically had a check mark placed next to it and I know they weren't read because the member hasn't been online this afternoon.  So it seems you can determine they were read or not, but it is not obvious as it is for your inbox where  red "unread" text is displayed.

I wan to add just because it is marked unread doesn't mean the member read the message, but you can tell if it was opened...unless they highlighted and marked it read again!

A while back people were upset because they got email from PBS saying they had a PM.  They'd go "to the trouble" of coming to the site to see their incoming PM only to find it was 2 words for a book they'd sent out  "Thank you" were the words.  So PBS started putting the text of the PM in the  emails to save those members from having to come to PBS to read their PM's.  Thus, they could never read any of their PM's and still have read the text.  I'm here every day and I don't really read my email.  I hate email.  I like PM's.  Each to their own.  Just sayin'.....
