In the description of the book, it tells how Izzy Chambers quits her law practice and opens a Cape Ann knitting shop. The book jacket leads the reader to believe that the book will be written from Izzy's viewpoint. I was disappointed to discover that 1/4 into the story it is actually from her Aunt Nell's view. This makes the book slow moving and boring. Aunt Nell worries about the murder,worries about Nell, talks about the love she has for her husband, talks about,knitting,food,knitting,food,knitting,food,knitting..
blah.blah.blah.By the end of the book I really didn't care to find out who the murderer was.

This is a hard book for me to review, the 2 1/2 stars I gave it kind of reflects this. If this book had not been part of a challenge, I would not have finished it. The mystery itself was good, but you have to wade through alot of melodrama to get to it. The author does a fairly good job of describing the locale, the ocean, etc., but the way she describes the thoughts and emotions of the characters and their conversations is where the melodrama comes in, and it does so often. In addition she introduces so many characters in a short period of time that it took me about half-way through the book to figure out who was who.

Having said all that, there was just something about the book I liked. The ending was surprising, and the why of what was done was nothing I would have thought of. Although I figured out who "done it" I certainly did not know why. I liked the book enough to want to read the next in the series, which I never thought I would in the first 50 or so pages.

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the second and third installments. The characters were intelligent and real, the settings beautifully described and the relationships felt genuine. I loved this book!

I like to read the knitting mysteries, and well the cozy mysteries in general. This is the second book by this author that I just dont want to finish(Murder Elderberry Road was the other book I didnt enjoy). I dont think she is the right author for me. I am 130 pages into this book and it just doesnt move along. I dont think we have even begun to find any clues yet. I am going to keep reading cause other reviews here tell me I will like the ending. Well, I got to the end, and thank goodness it is over. BTW this book is not written as Izzy as the main character or the story teller, it is AUNT Nell as the main slueth, and whose point of view we hear the story , with group of knitters (IZZY included) as back ground characters

This is not a Christian book by any means, but it is a easy going story, if you like the sweet style of christian fiction you might really enjoy this mystery. It was way to nice and slow paced for me. I need more zing.

This was a fun, fast moving read. The characters are real and well developed. There were enough twists and turns to keep you reading. I look forwaard to book 2 in the series.

Nice little cozy set in a Massachusetts seaside town where murder disrupts the lives of the residents. Knitting background. I had half of it figured out pretty early on, though the real identity of the murderer didn't emerge for a while, thanks to a pretty good red herring subplot.

Great first in series story. Many elements keep it moving to an exciting conclusion. Good knitting tips and shawl pattern at end of book. Also some food items as well photography and history of the area.

The beginning of the book made me aware that this author had a different style of writing than I was expecting. After I got into the plot, I really enjoyed the book. I was able to guess "who-done-it" but that didn't detract from the story.

I agree with one of the other reviewers that this is a hard book to review. Did I like it? Yes. Did I love it? No. I liked the overall plot, but it was kind of slow at times. Too much info about what they ATE at the knitting classes when they would discuss the murder. Just get to the clues already! I kind of figured out the culprit, but there was a little something in there that surprised me as well. I will read the second in the series.

The first 50 pages or so of this book just did not grab me. The sentence structure was a bit off and the knit shop by the seas with dear friends and a cat was a bit dry and redundant; but the fearless reader that I am decided to see it through to the end and I'm glad that I did.

Izzy Chambers has left her burgeoning career as an attorney and has decided to open up a knit shop in the sunny seaside town of Sea Harbor, Massachusetts. As her friends gather for the weekly meeting of food and stitching, the discussion quickly turns to the renter of the apartment above the shop. Angie Archer has returned to town to take on a specialty project but before her research can come to light she is found dead. With a couple of odd occurrences and a couple of people with secrets, it is up to Izzy and her band of knitters to work out what happened and to bring Sea Harbor back to the peaceful sleepy village that it is.

Though this is definitely a knitters book, with a scarf pattern at the end, I had wished that Ms. Goldenbaum had included a couple of the recipes that were mentioned during Ben's Friday Night Martini Drop In and the Thursday Night Stitch and Eat. Not to mention a couple of Frittata recipes.

I look forward to the next couple of books in this series. The early problems that Ms Goldenbaum encountered at the beginning of the book ironed themselves out and the characters soon began to take on their own life and rhythm. I look forward to meeting up with them again.
