Good. I enjoy the Hamish Macbeth character, but the plots are becoming repetitive. Does Beaton ever change from the "10 Little Indians" mystery format with the series?

To have read one of the Hamish MacBeth mysteries, is all that is needed to want for another. This is one of my favorites, for the humor alone. The discriptions of this glutton are so halarious it is shameful! You have to love Hamish and his modest ways, his romantic blunderings and the setting it all takes place in bring me a peace of mind I don't find in a murder mystery of any other type!

If you're interested in Book 8, then you're already a fan. Hamish is still charming in a goofy kind of way. He finds the killer by intuition--as usual. There's a pretty girl who fancies him, and Priscilla is jealous.

The setting is Tommel Castle. I was reminded of the story "Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. Folks go to the castle in hopes of finding a spouse, but of course someone is murdered--an unlikeable person (again as usual).

I love Hamish because he's comforting. I also love the television show.

Eighth Hamish MacBeth cozy police series set in Lochdubh, Scotland. When the hotel run by Colonel Halburton-Smythe hosts a singles-looking-for-marriage group, things turn sour for Maria, the head of the group, when her mostly-silent partner Peta shows up. Peta is a glutton, eats huge amounts of food with loud slurping noises and puts everyone in the group off. When she turns up near the old gravel pit, dead with an apple stuffed in her mouth like a suckling pig, the problem becomes narrowing the suspect list down. Hamish, as usual, manages that feat and outshines his bosses who all want the quick fix solution. Not quite as enjoyable as recent books in this series have been, but I'm not sure just why.
