The Death Peddlers War on the Unborn Author:Paul Marx, O.S.B., Ph.D. The full name of the Abortion Symposium of this book was Therapeutic Abortion: a Symposium on Implementation. It was held at the International Hotel in Los Angeles January 22-24, 1971. In the words of its chairman, Dr. Gerald B. Holzman, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California Los Angeles' School of Medicine, it wa... more »s meant to direct attention "toward the logistics of implementing a therapeutic abortion program and the financial impact felt by the patient and the community." The principal problems to be examined were those of space ("Where should therapeutic abortion patients be hospitalized?"), availability to the indigent and near indigent ("The wealthy can avail themselves of a means to interrupt an unwanted pregnancy"), and proper evaluation and counseling ("Will the pendulum swing too far too quickly so that abortion creates more problems than it corrects?").
The Symposium on Implementation of Therapeutic Abortion was sponsored as an educational course by the University Extension of UCLA and its School of Nursing and School of Medicine, in cooperation with the California Committee on Therapeutic Abortion.
It was designed for physicians (particularly those in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology and psychiatry), persons in such related professions as nursing and social work, hospital administrators and chiefs of staff, and concerned citizens.
It was "made possible in large part by a grant from the Sunnen Foundation, with support funding from AirShields, Inc., Berkeley Bio-Engineering, Inc., Ortho Pharmaceutical Corporation and G. D. Searle & Co."« less
