I really enjoyed this book. I have heard about this, but never knew her name or anything about her. I really like the way it is written and couldn't put it down. Bledsoe, gives us the terrible facts without sensationalizing them.

I'm a big fan of true crime books and usually love this author, but this was rather slow moving book. A lot of history which is important to this old case, but slow............

This is the true story of Velma Vartfield, the first woman to be executed in the United States by lethal injection. It takes place in Robeson County, N. Carolina. I hate to give anything away, but I do see why she was the first.

This book was good - I was not familiar with the case, and the subject matter was interesting. It did seem to drag a bit at the end, but for the most part it moved right along. The author did a good job in not taking sides - you definitely saw points of view from the victims, the state, etc. I really felt sorry for her children.
