Death's Master is the second in the original Tales of the Flat Earth Trilogy, but you won't need to read the others to enjoy this one. Almost every chapter stands alone, yet all the stories entertwine so seamlessly that you'll hardly notice that you are reading what are essentially short stories! Each book of the original trilogy concerns a particular "Lord of Darkness" - this one, obviously, deals with Death, also called Uhlume. These are wonderful books, and though Tanith Lee is an overlooked writer in this country, no one in the fantasy field matches her for originality or style.
