What are you reading in December?

I am reading The Lost Carousel of Provence by Juliet. Very good so far set between modern day and early 1900s France.

Reading The Countess and the Butler by Elizabeth Brodnax for my HF challenge. Not far enough in to comment but I realize that it is a romance.

I've been reading A Day of Fire:  A Novel of Pompeii by several authors, including one of my current favorites, Kate Quinn.  This is a fictionalized account of the day Mount Vesuvius erupted and the effects of the event on the inhabitants of Pompeii.  Each "book" is written by a different author but there is a cast of overlapping characters in each section.  It's a unique concept and a very interesting one as well.

Enjoyed Mata Hari's Last Dance.  It was quite good.  It appears that someone or the hysteria of war convicted her of spying.  The  author obviously believed that she was innocent.  Good read, 4 stars.

I am reading City of Secrets by Victoria Thompson. Book 2 in her new series. Set in 1918 New York City. I am liking better than book 1.

To celebrate the return of The Vikings series on the History Channel I am reading The Wolf Sea by Robert Low.  This is the second in a very good series about Vikings featuring Orm the BearSlayer and his band of Oathsworn bretheren.  The books are kind of hard to find but worth the hunt.  Oh and if any of you are fans (like I am) of Uhtred, new episodes of  "The Last Kingdom" are now available on Netflix!

I have series but have not read it yet.  Love last Kingdom on Netflix.

I love Vikings! I've been recording this season, and I haven't seen any of it yet, but it's so delicious! 

I love it too Alice.  The actor who plays Uhtred is really excellent I think.  He has just that right amount of snark and he is very easy on the eyes!

Need to look up this series.  Sounds fascinating.  Am finishing The Black Tower by Louis Bayard and really like it.

Oh that was such a good book!  I think it was one of my top reads of the year when I discovered it.

Yes, it's an outstanding read.  I am still thinking about what to share about this gem.  Hope others discover it, too.  Certainly, an alternate tale that could have saved Charles.  Am now beginning Cora Harrison's Condemned to Death.  Can't decide if I started it once and put it aside or really read the whole thing.  I'll discover that as I go along.  Rereads are ok, too.

The Repentant Rake by Edward Marston 4 stars out of 5.  Excellent Historical Mystery set in restorative England 1668. This book is number 3 in the series.

Mr Marston does and excellent job on growing his characters in each book. He brings out all their faults and goodness. Murder was well put together and not easy to figure out. Highly recommend this series.

I started London by Edward Rutherfurd.

I've finished Goodnight June by Sarah Jio which I have had on my TBR for awhile.  Time to move it.  This author is so easy to read!  Good read.  Great for relaxing!

Am deeply involved in The Witch of Cologne by Tobsha Learner.  What a chaotic time!  I find it hard to put down yet the book is long and has small print which takes me longer to read.   I am fearful for the survival of the key characters as there is so much bigotry, racism and religious zeal involved.  The tale is very well done.  This author does an outstanding job of depicting realistic characters suffering because of the times in which they live.  I rate it 5 stars.

I'm going to finish out 2018 and begin 2019 with a contemporary mystery/thriller, Lethal White by Robert Galbraith aka as J. K.  Rowlings.  She certainly knows how to write a good story whether it's about a wizard or a private investigator.
