I declined to send a requested book due to an RC of the requesters. I typed in a polite reason for my decision not to send. This was a first for me. This declined request does not appear on my Transaction Archive, and also, the response I typed does not appear in my Personal Messages archive. Where can I find this record? Does anyone know? |

You could send this question to Ask the Librarian (under Help Center), but afaik, there is no log kept. It's probably just a part of daily transactions which would number in the thousands.... |

There's no record that's visible to you because this is not considered a real request until after you've accepted the RCs. At that point you get the regular request page where you can agree to send or cancel and then it would appear in the Transaction Archive after it's completed either way. The system definitely keeps a record of RC declines somewhere though, because it will prevent her from requesting your book again unless she removes her RCs, so in order to do that, it has to know she requested it once and was declined for RCs. I think another reason not to put these in the Transaction Archive is to prevent the two members from having further conversation about the transaction. You're allowed to decline RCs for any reason without having to answer PMs about why or engage in debates about what her RCs really mean, and she's allowed to have RCs without receiving comments about whether they're reasonable or not. Plus, if there are other copies of the book in the system, the request just gets passed along to the next sender. If that's the case, whatever you typed into the comment box about declining does not go to the person who has the RCs at all. If there are no other copies of the book available, or if yours is the last in line and everyone else has also declined her RCs, then the other member gets an email that includes your message and instructs her that she can request the book again by removing her RCs. If the other member removes her RCs and requests the book again, then the request goes to the first book in line, which may not even be yours. |

Thank you both for replying. Interesting that whatever you typed into the comment box about declining does not go to the person who has the RCs at all. I assumed the requester would get to see the reason why. Never assume, I learn yet again!! Thank you! |

How strange. I have a no smoke RC and have occasionally been declined because of it. As far as I can remember I've always received the sender's comment for why they are declining. Most times it's a simple "smoker in the house" but on occasion it's been more complicated and a time or two it's been to simply remark the sender declines all RCs. So is this---not sending the sender's reason to the requester---something new? |

Marya is right. If the person who declined an RC includes a message, that comment is shared with the requestor. Otherwise you just get a general message saying' book didn not meet your RC". |

When my RC is declined occassionally, I get the message of why but there is no record of it on my transactons. It is like it didn't happen and I'm put back in my wishlist spot. The system doesn't want you to be able to contact the member who declined. |

Marya and Jeanne -- the message you are receiving is the one from the last copy of the book in the system. Imagine there are two available copies of the book you requested. If the first sender declines because of RCs, she will type a message in the box, but you will not get an email and you will not know what she said. Your request will just be passed along to the member who posted the second copy of the book. If the second (and last) sender declines, then in that case you will get an email with her explanation. You will not get more than one "RC was declined" email for a single book request, no matter how many people declined. I think you will see the passed along request in your Credits log but I don't have one right now to verify that. If you are being offered a wish list book, then by definition, there's only one copy available, so in that case you would always get the email. |

When you decline to send a book due to to a RC, the message that you type is sent in an email to the Book Requestor. Same as when you click "Cannot Mail" after you accept a book request. You can find these communications in "Club Communications". Because declining for a RC is not a book transaction, it is not saved in the "My Transactions" area. So the only record that is accessible to us, is the email stored in Club Communications. You only see the previous 30 days of those emails, they do not display all historical emails to us. |

So many new thanks to offer to all who have replied. And a couple more questions, too: If you are being offered a wish list book, then by definition, there's only one copy available, so in that case you would always get the email. The book I offered was/ is a wishlist book. So, can I assume that person with the RC got my polite email? If so, where can I find a record of this? You can find these communications in "Club Communications". Perhaps here? Where can I find "Club Communications". Gah, I have been a member for 10 years now and all of this is new and a first for me. |

I will also add: All my questions stem from this: what happened was, the very moment I clicked "send" on my polite reason for declining the request due to the RC, I had another request for this book. As said, it's a wait list book. I guess I am trying to be sure that the current requester is a NEW requester (with no RCs). It happened so fast, I literally had no time to even see what was happening. Which is why I am trying to find the info somewhere here in the system I have sent a PM to the "new" (?) requester, trying to verify she is not the one with the RCs, but 3 days have gone by and there has been no reply. I plan on mailing the book tomorrow (with fingers crossed). Gah, all this is new to me, I haven't declined to send a book ever due to an RC. The whole thing leaves me confused and unsure. Thanks to all.

If there was an RC that was accepted on a request it will always be available to see on the order. There’s a button on the order tab to click to review the RC if the sender wants to double check before packing and mailing. So when you declined the RC for that first person it was automatically offered to the next person with it WL. You shouldn’t have anything to worry about. |

@Stephanie -- since you posted a wish list book, there were multiple members waiting for it. The first one had RCs. You declined, so she got an email from the system that included your message, and she was put back on the wish list in her previous position. As the sender (or non-sender in this case), there is no record of this that you can see. Club Communications only has emails that were sent To You by the system. Since your message was incorporated into an email that was sent by the system to someone else, you will not see it in your Club Communications. The member who received the message can see it in her Club Communications though. When you declined the first request, your book was immediately offered to the next person on the wish list. That person had the book on auto-request, so the wish list offer was automatically accepted by the system and the book was requested from you. This happens instantaneously. There aren't any intermediate steps if the book is on auto-request. You can tell that this new request does not have RCs because you did not have to accept them before being asked to accept/decline the request, and it does not have a button that says View Requestor Conditions. The way the system works is, if there is a request on your My Account page, then it is a valid request and you should act on it. In this case, since you want to send the book, you should print the label and mail it and mark it mailed. You don't need to wait for a response to the PM you sent, and if she does reply, the other member may sound confused because she doesn't know that her request is the second one you got for this book and she doesn't know what the first members conditions were. All she knows is that she doesn't have any RCs on her request. |

More and many thanks to everyone who answered. I certainly made things more complicated than they needed to be! But the super-quickness of the system just threw me for a loop. All have a safe and peaceful day.
