This book is one I was thinking about long after I finished it. Tackling the issues of race in the south and the issues of abandonment, I found myself drawn completely into this novel. I am a little surpised that more people didn't read and talk about this one. I give it a 41/2 of 5.

I love Brown's writing. It's lush and dark and tells powerful tales. I read his "Shelton Lafleur" a number of years ago and loved it; this thankully lived up to my expectations. Having lived in New Orleans makes his writing all the better. This novel is told from the point of view of several narrators and tells of the intertwined lives that eventually lead to a family's downfall.
