Even after reading all the discussion about the delivery confirmation..I'm still confused..Last few books sent, I had to contact p.back swap to credit me each time for my instant credit.  Is this going to be the norm from now on?  Post office is still claimng that they no longer scan the confirmation, but p.back swap says it is fixed.  Does anyone have any answer.  I just checked my creidts and I was not credited for book sent on 2/19/13..so i will send p.back another message.

found my answer...p.,back states that creidt will only be given when post office scans it and that can be up to several days when book is delivered.  It is interesting that this system now won't allow me to send a question using the terms "Quick Credit" it automatically deletes my message and sends me to FAQ about quick credits, at least I got my answer.  I'm curious, how many members still use DC even though one does not receive credit immediately.

I've used it once since the postage increase, but won't use it again until I know for sure all is working as it used to.  Also noticed that the PBS charge for DC is now 30c.

ETA:  Well, maybe the charge has always been 30c and I just never paid attention before??

I received a book the other day that had PBS D/C and postage stamps. I'm sure the sender paid for the D/C thinking she would get the credit immediately. But the book was never scanned at the PO or along the way to my house. She only got the credit once I marked it as received.

Yes I mailed books yesterday and still haven't gotten my credit.  This new "problem" just makes me mad.  I have to esp use DC for game, but it almost feels useless now and a waste of money if it doesnt do anything.

First Question...are your post offices actually scanning the PBS e-DC barcode, or covering it up with another?  What does your USPS receipt say?  The tracking number is now printed on your receipt...if they are doing it properly, the number on the receipt should match the PBS number on your details page.

BTW - compiled a very quick status update on the USPS Forum.

This is the latest info I have (but I haven't tested it):

2/18/2013 - Quick Credit issue should be fixed!

  • USPS reports that they completed their software fixes and DC scan info should be transmitting to our system properly now.
  • Member should expect this to work on mailings from 2/18 and after.

And the PBS fee for this has gone up 3 cents, from 27 cents to 30.

If you printed your wrapper after the 18th and it isn' working, let the Admin Team know.  You can bet their are working their tails off to get this thing working again.

Thanks, Patty. That explains why the book sent to me wasn't scanned on its way as it was mailed on 2/13.

Patty, we are still experiencing issues with the DC.  We are getting approximately a 50% transmission rate with DC information and quick credits showing up here at PBS.  There are those of us who are mailing/testing/reporting on the long USPS forum post, and so far, saying it is fixed is premature.

Sheila, I agree.

USPS scans are working, scans read on digitial receipt and match the scan code on my mailing.

But still not getting quick credits thru PBS site, even though USPS shows it's been scanned 3 times now!

Wish me luck. I'm taking 2 packages with PBS DC to the local PO today along with PBS provided instruction for the PO on how to scan it. We'll see if it works.

I had to push the counter clerk to use the instructions----he said the postmaster had informed them that DC costs 90 cents-----but when I convinced him to at least give it a go, he followed the PBS instreuctions, my PBS DC scanned and I only paid 20 cents per scan!

I did offer to leave the instructions with the clerk but he declined my offer and suggested I bring them with me each time.

My account shows the quick credit still pending but I'm hoping it works the whole way through.

Yay!  Stubborn not to keep your instructions tho and use them for training everyone, kinda shows an unwillingness to know your job and do it well.

Do you have a link to the instructions?

http://www.paperbackswap.com/misc/whats_new.php

The instructions can be found in the What's New section.  The link is in the upper right hand tippy top corner of each PBS page.

These are the PBS instructions I printed out and took to the PO with me---and they work as long as the counter clerk is willing to try them:

 ------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROCESSING A PACKAGE with ELECTRONIC DC:
1) Place the parcel on the scale.
2) Key in the zip code.
3) Stop. You should have the "What are you mailing?" screen showing. Scan the tracking barcode on the label. This should bring up a new screen showing the postage plus the correct charge for the e-DC (.20 for media mail)*
4) If any postage is affixed, press the "Postage Affixed" button and key in the amount of postage on the parcel. If the parcel has no postage skip to the next step.
5) Press the "Print PVI" button. This should print just the postage PVI and no tracking PVI.

*If the e-DC barcode will not scan from the "What are you mailing?" screen follow this procedure:
1) Proceed as normal telling POS what it is that is being mailed.
2) DO NOT select Tracking
3) When you print the PVI, affix the postage as normal and place the tracking PVI on the package, but DO NOT cover the pre-printed tracking barcode on the label. Covering an existing DC is only acceptable for the green Delivery Confirmation labels.

Definitely will bring the instructions with me next time. Had a heck of a time with the postmaster at my PO today and ended up paying an extra $.90 per package. I've been mailing books through PBS for about 5 years and never had an issue. She insisted that her staff has been doing pre-printed DC wrong all this time and that I shouldn't be able to print DC and then bring the package to the PO to mail. That I've been "cheating the government" by using pre-printed DC. I was floored and fed up, but I had to mail the books, so I forked over the extra.

all 22 and all before the postage increase have gotten me immediate credit.

Kim, there was never a problem with printable postage.  We are talking about when you print the DC barcode only, and then either apply stamps or go to the PO for the postage.

I'm mailing out 9 packages today with e-DC and am posting my results of how many receive quick credit and are trackable here at PBS on the USPS forum.

Just mailed off 2 more books today, this time I took the instructions for D.C. with me...Clerk followed instructions and it still didn't work as stated. Thankfully, the main clerk was there and she figured out a different way, so all should be well.  It was so much easier to mail off books, months ago..  oh well...
