I sent a book to New York City and here's the last few DC events:

Bullet Delivery status not updated as of March 31, 2011, 11:47 pm
Bullet Out for Delivery, March 31, 2011, 9:47 am, NEW YORK, NY 10027
Bullet Sorting Complete, March 31, 2011, 9:37 am, NEW YORK, NY 10027
Bullet Arrival at Post Office, March 31, 2011, 6:55 am, NEW YORK, NY 10027

What exactly happened here? The book arrived at the post office in NY, and went out for delivery, but then what? It just disappeared? Any ideas about what might be going on? Some problem with delivery? Should I expect the book to get returned to me? (it hasn't yet)

I'm very confused...

It may have been received by the requester but they forgot to mark the book received. I would send a polite PM to them saying that the tracking shows the book was out for delivery and have they received it yet. Also ask them to mark it received if it got there.

Looks like the carrier didn't scan it "delivered"  when the carrier got to the delivery point, it should have been scanned delivered, notice left or n rare instances, forwarded or return to sender.  Since it got none of those, the most logical explanation is the carrier delivered the package and did not scan it as delivered. any other explanation would have gotten other scans afterwards--ie if they were notified to come into the PO to get the package or if it was returned to you or forwarded.

Yes, pm the receiver.  In a few days you can take your DC number to your PO, they can contact the other PO and ask for further information.

There is a new DC event:

  • Unclaimed, April 23, 2011, 8:19 am, NEW YORK, NY

And I haven't gotten a reply to the PM I sent to the receiver two days ago.

I had an interesting problem lately with a delivery from Lands' End.  Their web site showed that a package had been delivered to me on Good Friday.  The next Wednesday I still hadn't received it.  I called Lands' End.  Turns out the packages are marked "Delivered" when they reach my local USPS hub, not when they are actually delivered to the house.  The local USPS delivers them on days when regular mail loads are lower (ie, not TV Guide day).  The package eventually got here a week later.

Something is wrong with that picture.  They (FedEX drop shipments to USPS offices) are supposed to be delivered or at least attempted by the next day after they arrive at the USPS unit, at the latest.  I would complain if I was being treated like that.

And really, who gets a mailed copy of TV Guide any more?  I believe my office gets about the same number of TV Guides as it does of the New Yorker (3).  Well maybe a few more, but I bet there are not more than a dozen.
