I highly recommend reading Democracy in America. I do not highly recommend this version - some of the "abridging" that was done deleted out some of the less flattering views of Americans that De Tocqueville expressed. In other words, this is how this particular translator wished De Tocqueville to have written about America. Choose another version if you actually want to know what DT said.
