Who here is a fan? I read "Mystic River" years ago when it first came out and loved Lehane's style. For some reason, I've not read any of his other books. I just put "Shutter Island" on reserve at the library but I was wondering if anyone has read his Kenzie/Gennaro books and what you thought of that series.

Yes LeeAnne!  I love Lehane and I love the series!  And Shutter Island is an excellent book!  The only one I haven't read is Coronado - I haven't come across a good review on that book yet.  So, yes, yes I think you will enjoy the series!  If my mom would hurry up and read them I could offer them to you, but she isn't reading very fast these days!  She was taking too long to read the William Lashner series and I had Tammi (from here) waiting for them.  So, being the pbs addict that I am, I walked in to her house and said "Times Up!"  Yep, took them right from her!

Thanks, Carol, but please don't snatch the books from your mom! LOL! Is it best to read the Kenzie/Gennaro books in order? (Now that I've type those names a couple of times, it may be that I read one or two of these...)

I read that series a couple of years ago and I LOVED it! I recommend reading it in order, or else you might feel a little bit lost. Any one book of the series could stand alone, but if you are going to read them all anyway, it would be best, I think, to read them in order.

I have loved everything I read by him, except Coronado - that one I haven't been able to get into yet. Its still on my TBR. I wish he would write something new!

Laura, there was an article in our paper yesterday about Dennis Lehane and apparently he does have a new book out or coming out soon. It's a bit of a departure for him as it is supposed to be an historical novel set in Boston in the early 1900s. The article is what made me post this thread. :)

I also really recommend the Kenzie/Gennaro series, and I've read them all more than once.  I agree with Laura that you should read them in order because there are some spoilers in the later books.

But beware--they can be difficult to put down!

LeeAnne if you are still interested in this series, I have all 5 in paperback.  No, I didn't have to snatch them from my mom!  Let me know, I won't post them anywhere yet in case you want them.  I may pm you in case you don't get this soon~
