Am I required to make sure the book I posted matches the description? Because I didn't notice  and it was a wishlisted book and now someone wants it. But it is the original edition and the later edition has added material, quote: " Some of the information has been updated and a bit of new stuff added. For example, a host of web sites now exists where kid campers can view and even order a slew of neat camping information and equipment..."

What is the procedure in this kind of case? Are you required to let the requestor know? Or can you just go ahead and mail it?

But the ISBN matches?  And the form (PB vs HC)?

usually I see different publishing years giving the book a new ISBN.

The book matches the PBS description as far as ISBN, form (Hard cover) and pub date (1979) which is pre-internet. But the description is for a later edition with internet links and info added. Somehow the description for the book published in 2000 got placed on the book published in 1979.

If it were me, and this might not be the thing to do, but I'd try it.  I'd go in and do a 'book edit' and where it asks what editing, explain (and make sure that the ISBN, pub year, etc., match your book as well as PBS info), that you're correcting the book description to match the 1979 edition rather than the newer 2000 edition.  They may question it, but at least you've tried.  Good luck. I did do the edit of the description, removing the part describing the additions to the book.  And I explained why I was making the change. But so far, the edit hasn't gone thru or has been rejected.

Technically, no, you are not required to match the description of the book. As long as your ISBN is correct and the binding and title are correct, you are OK. (Is there an edition number in the title of the listing?)

But, since you know of this issue, I think the right thing to do is to PM the person who ordered it and ask them about it before you mail the book.

And, also, make the data edit as suggested for your edition.

If it were me, I might poke around on Amazon for a few minutes to see if there are newer editions of the book with different ISBNs, or if it appears that newer editions were published with the same ISBN.

Yes, I did check the ISBN with other book sites and this ISBN appears to me to be only for the old 1979 edition. The newer editions have different ISBNs.

Also, my book has two ISBNs: 0688419100 and 0688519105 (Lib bdg) and I posted under the 0688419100 because I don't know how to tell if a book has a library binding or not. But anyways, both ISBNs are for 1979 editions.

Also, I did PM the requestor (twice) but have received no response.

There is currently a backlog in the book data approvals (there are currently over 400 submissions awaiting review) and this will take a little bit of time for the Data Team to clear the approvals line.  The edits/corrections should be reviewed soon, though, and changes will appear in the database soon afterwards.

Thank you, Sianeka. I was wondering about that.

I have just reached this point in the Approvals line and have approved this change.  Normally, I will delete or not approve changes that add edition specific information to a PBS listing unless my research shows that several sites use only the listing ISBN for that specific edition.  Otherwise, to me, the listing is to be used for posting ALL editions of a specific ISBN.

In this case, my research did NOT indicate that this ISBN was specifically for the updated edition, and so I approved Gayle's changes removing the edition specific information.
