I just got done listening to this book so I figured, why not watch the movie?

SUCKED! That movie SUCKED! I hate when movies completely disregard the book. I mean, some changes I can understand but to rip apart the plot like that?! Grrr. What a waste of time.

I know! I HATE how they made Miranda Priestly "nice." Her pure meanness is what made the book so interesting. Surely no one could be that mean??  We weren't supposed to feel sorry for her at all...Then they totally rewrote Lily's character and took out that whole subplot. The book's ending was WAY better than the movie ending.

Wow, I am kinda glad now that I didn't read the book because I really liked the movie!

I will mark that on my calendar as the first time I have ever been glad to have just watched the movie! lol

I could see how the movie would be good if you didn't read the book. DH (for reasons unknown to me) really likes the movie. He watches it whenever it comes on HBO. Weird (he's far from a chick flick type of guy).  I really just hated how they changed EVERYTHING in the movie.  I do think that they did an excellent job casting the characters, however. Glenn Close was a great choice for Miranda Priestley (they just changed the storyline to make her character nicer) and Anne Hatthaway did a pretty good job as Andrea (even though she still looked pretty in those dumpy outfits they put her in at first).

I usually like the book better too...wait a year or so and read the book. I bet you would enjoy it on its own merits. :)

Brandi, you have to read the book! It is so much better then the movie....

I didn't think they chose the characters well at all. I didn't imagine Miranda having gray hair. She reminded me of the type of person that would dye, dye, dye their hair till the day they died.

I didn't imagine Lily to be black either. That was kinda weird. And why did they change her boyfriends name to Mark?

Glad I've only read the book and never seen the movie. In that case I guess I won't be trying to get my hands on the DVD anytime soon.

definitely agree that if i hadnt read and LOVED the book first, i would have liked the movie. However, that wasnt the case. I really didnt think it was a good portrayal of the book at all. I dont really enjoy Anne Hathaway anyway.

I wasn't planning to read this book since I had seen the movie and liked it, but reading this thread recently peaked my curiosity.  Then this morning I see that Colleen has a deal in the Bazaar and has the book on her shelf.  I couldn't help myself!
