One of Kleypas' best, in my opinion. Definitely the best in this particular series. A very touching, sexy, and credible story of two people who should be completely wrong for each other, yet somehow manage to prove that opposites really do attract - and for very good reason.

I love her books. The Wallflower series is one of the best. This one was one of the best.

Devil in Winter is the third book in Lisa Kleypas' Wallflower series. This truly was an enjoyable tale, and I recommend reading them in order. Had I not, I would not have appreciated so many things that happened in the other books. I kept thinking in the back of my head how can Sebastian redeem himself. Evie visits Sebastian with a marriage solution that will benefit both of them. Evie, for protection and Sebastian, for money. What comes from that solution is a marriage that becomes real. Where they each quit being what others think them to be, and they turn into what they WANT to be. Sebastian is BAD, REAL BAD, and he doesn't care, but it's a front, and Evie knows it. Sebastian sees that there's more to Evie than her stammers and shyness, but she is a treasure- rich as a sweet and soothing lady. There was a bunch of symbolism (Jenner's Club) that occurs with this book, and the little actions that Evie and Sebastian take. You watch them fall in love, and enjoyable to see Sebastian be brought to his knees.
This is a memorable book, it's very emotional. If you haven't visited this series… You many want to think about it!

This was a very good book. Romantic and witty, with great chemistry between the characters. I highly reccomend it to anyone who loves historical romance.

I was pleasently suprised with this book. I picked it up at a bargain book sale, even though I was unfamaliar with the author. I really enjoyed it, and have picked up more of her books since. The hero, Sebastion, is very yummy. You'll be happy you read this book.

Good book! I enjoyed seeing Evie go from shy, stuttering wallflower, to a woman in her own right.
A DEVIL'S BARGIN
Easily the shyest Wallflower, Evangeline Jenner stands to become the wealthiest, once her inheritance comes due. Because she must first escapt the clutches of her unscrupulous relatives, Evie has approached the rake Viscount St. Vincent with a most outrageous proposition: Marriage!
Sebastian's reputation is so dangerous that thirty seconds alone with him will ruin any maiden's good name. Still, this bewitching chit appeared, unchaperoned, on his doorstep to offer her hand. Certainly an aristocrat with a fine eye for beauty could do far worse.
But Evie's proposal comes with a condition: no lovemaking after their wedding night. She will never become just another of the dashing libertine's callously discarded broken hearts-which means Sebastian will simply have to work harder at his seductions... or perhaps surrender his won hear for the very first time in the name of true love.

Third in the "wallflower" series. Evie Jenner is being pressured to marry an undesirable man, just to keep her inheritance in the family. Shy and embarrassed by her stuttering, she still manages to convince Viscount St. Vincent to marry her for her wealth (since his father has run through the family fortune). They run off to wed in Gretna Green and the adventures continue....

This is part of the wallflower series. I've read almost all of them. This one is my least favorite. I read the "sneak preview" of this story at the end of the previous book. I thought it sounded great and I think more could have been done with the story, but it isn't bad. Historical romance in London.
The shy, studdering Evangeline will inherit a large fortune which her unscrupulous relatives are scheming to get it from her by forcing a marriage with a less than desirable cousin. She escapes and proposes a business deal with Viscount St. Vincent to marry her. He is a peer with a bad reputation and in need of money. He agrees and they slip off to Scotland to elope. They both turn out to be different people than the other expected or perhas than they thought about themselves. The marriage of convenience becomes romantic.

The husband-hunting Wallflowers are back for a third Victorian-era romance. Evangeline "Evie" Jenner’s greedy relations plan to marry her off so they can grab her considerable inheritance for themselves. In response, Evie rashly proposes a marriage of convenience to the scandalously lecherous Viscount Sebastian St. Vincent. Astonished, he accepts, and is more astonished still to discover his overpowering passionate feelings for her. Unfortunately for him, Evie bars him from her bed after their wedding night. To gain such access again, he will have to demonstrably forswear all other women...a nearly impossible task for the randy Sebastian

Fun, yet not as exciting as "It Happened One Autumn." However, still fun to read considering the type of heroine we see here.

Loved this book. I think it was the best of the wallflower series!
There is nothing more fun than a naughty hero, and Sebastian is definitely naughty. I've read the other three Wallflowers' stories and I would have to say Sebastian and Evie are my favorite combination. The dialogue was sexy and the plotline was intriguing enough.
It was great to visit all the other ladies of the series. An older Cam appears in the Hathaway series and it was interesting to see a younger version of him here (A little disappointed he didn't end up with Daisy).
There is some repetition with the writing but I was glad I didn't have to read too much about Sebastian trying to push Evie away because he thought he wasn't deserving, etc... There is a little bit of that but not overbearing.
Overall it was a good, quick read.

This book is a case where, I believe, the reputation exceeds the book. I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I hadn't read all of the reviews about how great this book was. It was a good book, don't get me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I was definitely expecting more.
This is the second book I've read from this series and I will probably read the other two as well. Very enjoyable characters. I am particularly looking forward to It Happened One Autumn, which is the book before this one (#2).

Love this series! All four Wallflower books are wonderful.
An old one but a good one. This series is great & this one wallflower I think was the best.
This is the third Wallflower series that I've read and my favorite so far!! I loved the instant chemistry between Evie and Sebastian.
A great Kleypas book. I've been re-reading this series and am reminded why I loved Sebastian and Evie so much when I first read the book. He is funny and charming but also dark and emotionally broken. Evie, too, is scarred and they are a wonderful match and complement to each other. The love scenes are passionate and their developing romance is convincing and well told. I can't decide which hero is my favorite in this series, they are all really persuasive characters. A keeper and a must read.
I loved this story. Read it in only two days. Wonderful series and this one didn't disappoint me at all. Very funny, lots of great tension and sizzle. You won't be disappointed at all!
This is a delightful romance novel. It was the first I read from the series which made me want to read all 4 novels.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It makes me want to read the rest in the series. It has the right mix of history and sexual tension. It uses one of the best romance literary mechanisms....a marriage of convenience or forced marriage. This puts the protagonists into an uncomfortably close intimacy that forces them to learn to love (or I suppose they could hate although that's not much of a romance) eachother.
Excellent!
Excellent!
My favorite of the wallflower series. You can't help but love Evie.
This installment between Evie and St Vincent was wonderful. It was much more drama filled and less humorous that the other books, but the emotion was so intense. At first I did not understand his attraction to Evie, but in the end I think Westcliff was right. Evie represented a secret fantasy of his, the only fantasy he had never been able to come true up till that point - to be with a sweet woman in a real relationship that was meant to last more than a night. All in all it was a beautiful addition to the series, and a great teaser for Daisy's upcoming adventures!
I loved it. It was passionate and vivid in the description of people, places, and actions. Very HOT!!! I'm a big Fan of Lisa Kleypas.
I gave this book 3.5 stars, which was lower than most other Lisa Klepas books I've read and reviewed. I found it very enjoyable, but there were some weak points.
This is book 3 in the Wallflower series. Book 1 is Secrets of a Summer's Night and book 2 is It Happened One Autumn. You really need to at least read book 2 before this one, because it provides the back-stories for the main characters. Obviously the series is more enjoyable if read in order.
The plot of this one is somewhat poorly paced and most definitely cliched. Evie, a shy and socially awkward young woman marries a known rake, Sebastian, in order to be free of her abusive family at last. Sebastian agrees to marry Evie because her wealthy father is on his death bed, and he plans to use her money to replenish his dwindling fortune. The catch to the deal is that Evie wants nothing to do with Sebastian after the wedding night, sexually or otherwise, because she's afraid she will fall in love with him and end up hurt. Sebastian initially agrees to this with the assumption that he may still have many extramarital affairs, but soon realizes that he desires only Evie and seeks to seduce her. In addition to the main plot, we have subplots in which Sebastian takes over the running of Evie's father's club, and a disgruntled ex-employee has some grudge against Evie. All of this just barely comes together, and it's very rushed near the end, but for the most part it makes sense and it's entertaining. As for the cliches, they add simplicity and charm even as they make the story predictable.
Evie is a somewhat dry character in my opinion. She starts out shy and innocent, and grows a backbone over time, but even after all that there isn't anything to make her stand out from other heroines from similar books. Sebastian is a bit better--he's rough around the edges, but never abusive. He's conflicted, claiming with his words to care for nothing and no one while his actions demonstrate otherwise. I really liked this, and the way he treated Evie was incredibly sweet. The romance ends up being barely above average, though, because it's predictable and the heroine is like a hollow placeholder.
I was also a bit disappointed that the other wallflowers were mostly absent from this book. showing up only occasionally and not as a full group until the end. In the previous books part of what drove the plot and made the reading worthwhile was the friendship between the girls.
I still enjoyed this book for the fact that it continues a series I love. Kleypas has a very soothing, easy writing style which is demonstrated in this book. If you're a fan, it's worth reading.

This book is number 3 in a series, so it is slightly important to read the first two, it will help this book make more sense. The book read excellently; it flowed from one event to another and left very little unfinished. Lisa Kleypas writes beautifully and artfully. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who reads this genre of book.
The Wallflowers have struck again. Very entertaining story about the lives and loves of the "Wallflowers" and how they find love where they don't expect it.
This is my least favorite book in the Wallfower series. The hero is horrible and crude, and my opinion never changed, even at the end of the novel.
This book was so fun and very sexy. I really enjoyed reading it.
Wealthy Evie Jenner shows up unchaperoned on Viscount St. Vincent's doorstep with an outrageous proposal. If he will marry her and protect her from her unscrupulous family, Sebastian can pay off his family's debts with her inheritance. But the proposal comes with a condition...no lovemaking after their wedding night. Evie doesn't want to be just another one of Sebastian's discarded women. This just means Sebastian will have to work harder at his seductions...or surrender his own heart for the very first time.
Excellent story. Two opposites enter a marriage of convenience and find out they are just what the other person needs. I highly recommend.

I loved this book, lots of action, likeable characters, excellent story that I finished as fast as I could!
this is the third in the Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas. It revolves around the shy wallflower Evie jenner and the rake St.Vincent.
Evangeline Jenner went to Sabastion St Vincent to ask him to marry her to get away from her family. I don't think I've read the first 2 books in the series. I plan to read the 4th amd final im the series.
Great beginning for of a four book series.
New York Times Bestselling Author of It Happened one Autum. A devil of a romance!
Good---Very Good Part of the Wall Flower series
Evangeline Jenner has approached the notorious Viscount St. Vincent with the outrageous condition that the marriage is in name only. Evangeline is determined not to be one of Sebastian's conquests and thus the challenge begins. This is the third in the "Wallfower" series.
Lisa Kleypas is one of the best romance writers. I love her "Wallflowers" series. A great read.
third in the series...May be the best!
great read!
Easily the shyest Wallflower, Evangeline Jenner stands to become the wealthiest, once her inheritance comes due. Because she must first escape the clutches of her unscrupulous relatives, Evie has approached the rake Viscount St.Vincent with a most outrageous proposition: marriage!
She will never become just another of the dashing libertine's callously discarded broken hearts- which means Sebastian will simply have to work harder at his seductions...or perhaps surrender his own heart for the very first time in the name of true love.
This is the 3rd or 4 books in the Wallflower series.

3rd in series. Love this author, it is a great series.
I simply love this series. The Wallflower series has been one of the greatest series I've ever read. Each book has been a pleasure to read entirely. I've very infrequently come across a series where each book is just as good as the next one. They are splendid. It's my first experience with Lisa Kleypas, and I intend now to read each and every book she's written.
Wallflower series includes, in order:
Secrets of a Summers Night
It Happened One Autumn
Devil in Winter
A Scandal in Spring

Great classic-type historical romance
Enjoyable romance. Well written, interesting characters and story. Too much sex for my taste.
This was a lot of fun to read. I liked this one better than the 2nd in the series (It Happened One Autumn).
wonderful book!
Little Evie has finally stood up for herself, and she is liking it. St. Vincent doesn't know what to make of the little lady who is everything he thought he didn't want, but now, he has to have her in his heart for ever. LOVED this book and the series. enjoy!!!!!
Lisa never fails to write a solid romance. All in this series are enjoyable.

Great tiwst on the Cinderella story, set in early 19th century England. Heroine almost drowns in her shy personality, hero ultra conventional "bad boy". Nice character development, great tension, classic Kleypas.
A must read. This is the third book of a part of a series of books. Four young ladies enter London society and band together to each find a husband. Has the third "Wallflower" now met her match?
Great story. Can't wait for the final installment.
Love the Wallflower series
Fans of Lisa Kleypas will not be disappointed in this book.
wonderful
This was only an average read to me, in no way a keeper.
Aas usual the author has written a book that was the kind of reading you don't want to put down.
Great book...I have the Hardback edition
I think that I had very high expectations for this book; perhaps too high. I enjoyed the book, but I had been waiting so long for Evie and Sebastian's story that I couldn't help feeling let down. There were so many ways that Kleypas could have gone with the story. It was not as dark as Derek Craven's story, nor was there much drama with Evie's family. It was a good book, with emotional writing and interesting characters, but it wasn't all it could have been.
Part of the Wallflower series--Evangeline tries to get away from some relatives trying to claim her inheritance by asking the indebted rake who just tried to kidnap her best friend (Lillian)to marry her.
Of the season books, this is my favorite.

Third book in the Wallflowers series. This one is the story of Evangeline. Very, very good, though I thought it was not quite as good as the first two.
Loved the book, great addition to the wallflower series.
This rivals her previous books Deaming of You and Because your Mine, two of my personal favorites! I really loved this book and cant wait to read the next one, A scandal in spring.
Really enjoyed this book. Can't wait for the next installment.
Loved this 3rd book in the "Wallflower" series!
Third book in Kleypas' "Wallflower" series.
Darn! How can this shy, stammering wallflower, Evangeline Jenner, EVER reform this libertine, Viscount Sebastian St. Vincent. Seems an impossibility, given this rake's dangerous reputation..........

LOVED IT! Another awesome novel by Lisa Kleypas. This one was even better than the last in the Wallflower series. Great from start to finish.
