Being a Christian I can't say I like what Mr. Saul is saying about the Church. Maybe not his actual opinion, it is nonetheless a dim view of things. Mr. Saul is a master at bringing out the phobias that are common to all mankind. It was a good read, not heavy in any area with just the right amount of phobic description, tension and suspense. Yes, you know the ending from the beginning; it's predicitble, but Still worth reading. Good PBS book - read and trade.

This is one of John's best books to me. It is about a boy who loses his father in Iraq. Fifteen year old Ryan McIntyre's world is turned upside down by the unexpected and untimely death. After some trouble at his public high school, his mother Teri enrolls him at the St. Issac's Catholic boarding school which is higly recommended to help troubled teens. Strange things have been happening to students. Ryan hears about these students and witness weird things happening to his friends. Father Sebastian joins the faculty shortly before Ryan arrives and miraculous events begin to unfold in Father Sebastion's one man war against evil.
Is this a divine act or an evil one? You must read this book. A fast paced suspense filled book.

Engrossing book to read with a great plot. A little predictable but the writing is well done as usual so that makes the book entertaining. I'm constantly amazed at the fact that books like this aren't picked up for movie deals. The motion picture treatment of this book could be fascinating. I'm sorry to see the Catholic Church in Boston picked on but the setting makes sense. Good read and trade book.

This book was pretty good - not great, but it definitely had a few creepy moments and a page-turning plot. I read a few of Saul's books a long time ago, and while I recall one of them as being particularly frightening (_The Right Hand of Evil_), this book was more of an entertaining mystery than genuinely scary (though there are also a few "gross-out" parts, too). I wish that there had been more to wrap up the end, since as it is felt rushed and with some pretty major loose ends. Still, it made for a quick, fun and easy read.

John Saul is one of the scariest authors but I love his books. This one you can't put it down and it will scare you into thinking 'could this really happen?'. Great read!!

This book was awful. The author started two plotlines but left one of them and continued the other until I totally forgot about the first plotline. He was all over the place and left huge holes, provided little explanation, and wrapped it all up (when he reached his quota of pages, I assume). I like some of Saul's other books, but this one was just awful.

I found this book to be exciting and a little creepy! Although I am sad to add that is a little bit predictable. But it is worth the read!
