  The scent of it
brings back memories
of the old house and
the big backyard that
ends with a deep ditch
of a former river;
Of dinner at 4 p.m.
Wheel of Fortune and the
Pennsylvania Lottery at 6;
Of homemade Polish and
Italian food and many
aunts, uncles and cousins;
Of Sesame Street, french toast
and "Mlah-mlah" soup.

The smell of Dial soap on my
aged hands makes me think of
possible memories that could
have been made: 4 p.m. coffee talks;
learning how to make the homemade
Polish and Italian food; laughing
about childhood stories; seeing
your teary eyes at my wedding. You
can see these events still, every little
triumph, every word I write on this
page, in memory of you.
