This was my first Lowell book, and she quickly became my favorite romance author. I think she does a pretty good job of avoiding the usual romance novel pitfalls, i.e. "strong, dominant man" with "weak, needing protection and saving woman." I definitely appreciated that Lowell managed to provide and engaging plot without resorting to stereotypes. I also love Lowell's writing style. I find that her older novels (like this one) are much better in terms of prose than the new ones. I definitely recommend this book.
