I'm afraid I didn't enjoy this one as much as the last three. My biggest problem was Lizzie's insistence on finding her mother. Whatever it is that makes folks vitally interested in their ancestry, I don't have it and I can't understand the lengths people will go to find out. And so many red flags! Lizzie had to know she was going to be unhappy with what she found. Bailey does a long look at Chicago in 1969 (and previous), and I could appreciate the research and care she put into setting the scene. But there was an awful lot of background there. I've never been to Chicago and have zero interest in it, so all that was really slow going for me - I missed the university setting. I was reading every right-hand page for a while until Lizzie gets to New Orleans, when the action picks up steam. Even if I think she ought to have left well enough alone, I still really liked Lizzie (and Quinn), the other characters also had enough nuance to make them interesting, and with one more book in the series I'm interested to see what happens with Lizzie next.
