At present, my e-mail account is in limbo. (my provider, Centurytel, says I can't have an e-mail account unless I have a high-apeed internet with them. For one thing, they don't offer one to my rural location. And this, despite the fact that I have had an e-mail account with them for almost 20 years). So PBS wants "an up-dated e-mail account," as mine is unreachable by them. I will get another e-mail provider with a week or so, but is there a way I can explain this to PBS in the meantime?

You could make a temporary free one on Yahoo or... is Hotmail still a thing?

You could always change to the new, official e-mail once you get it sorted, but that way you'd at least have something on file...

You could open a Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, or Gmail account. All of those offer a free email service. I'm sure there are others. Then when you get your new email address in a few weeks, update your PBS account.

It is not a good idea to use the email from your ISP as the only email you have and this is the reason. Once you change providers, they can close the account. Gmail and Yahoo have been mentioned. If you use iCloud, you have free email with them, too.

For an alternate email acct, I like Gmail because if offers the ability to forward mail to any other email account.  (Yahoo doesn't offer this; not sure about Hotmail.)  I use Gmail now, for PBS because for some reason the Club Communications don't get delivered to my primary Yahoo account, even though I have all of the PBS addresses in my Yahoo contacts.

Hotmail allows you to forward emails.  My primary email addy is on gmail.  I really like it as there's less spam/junk that comes through.  In my experience, hotmail has a lot more spam and phishing emails to come through.  I used to have a Verizon email, but they discontinued email addresses right before they got taken over with Frontier.

I use yahoo for PBS sites, newsletters, publishers, book sites, etc. For banking, friends' emails, and formerly for work emails I use another somewhat  better protected account elsewhere.

I use a Gmail account because Gmail is encrypted.

I switched all my email accounts a few years ago from my ISP-provided email to Gmail because I wanted to be able to cancel my internet provider whenever I wanted. That also gave me a couple of months to see what email accounts I had forgotten that were still going to the old email.

Now nothing goes to my ISP and I can cancel them at any time I feel like! I get mad at them all the time, they used to be Road Runner, then they were bought by TIme Warner and now they were sold to Spectrum. I don't like Spectrum so far.

A friend who is an exec at Google recently told me it's a bad idea to have your email accounts through the same company as your internet provider for several reasons, including the reason you stated above, Sara.

For email, I have a yahoo account and a gmail account. .  I mostly use yahoo for my online shopping, so only check it every other day or so.  For PBS, I use gmail and haven't had a problem.

Gmail has a pretty good record of delivering PBS emails.
