Hello all,

Let me first say that this is the first time I've ever had a problem on this site and that I really love the group of people that make up paperbackswap.com. I've run into a tight spot and would love some advice. I ordered a deal off the Book Bazaar and it was marked recieved, mailed out, and they used DC. Two weeks passed and I got an email prompt asking if I've recieved the book. That same day I recieved a PM from the person sending the books out saying that her daughter had forgotten to send the books, but that she put them in the mail a week previous. I thougt little of it, since I've heard a few other stories of people forgetting and I assured her it would be fine. Fast forward a week and I  hadn't recieved the books and the DC scan still read blank. Today, the books timed out and I got a lost in the mail notice. Now, should I send a PM notifying her that it timed out and that I'll send a credit via buddying when I recieve them, should I send her a credit now and hope that the books make it here, or should I simply assume the books aren't coming and let the matter drop?

Thanks in advance!

If you get the books, you can mark it received via the transaction archive.  Until then, you are not obligated to do anything.  The sender also received an email that the books were lost in the mail, so sending a PM just reiterates that.

Since they were mailed late I wouldn't give up hope just yet. Sometimes the DC doesn't get scanned and sometimes books do take the whole three weeks to ship. I'd wait at least another week before you give up hope and order another copy. Other than that, you don't really need to do anything at all.

As the others have said don't do a thing!  Don't send a credit for something you don't have.  She know the shipment has been declared lost.

Your concern is whether PBS as now ordered this from someone else for you.  I had one go lost that was not a WL book and it was ordered FIFO immediately.  So, look for that because you might end up with two of the same books.  I was fortunate - my lost book was truly lost so I just received one.  Unless it shows up one of these days...lol.

If a book has been marked mailed and goes lost it shoujld not reorder it for you unless it's a WL book.  If it's WL then you go back in the 1st place position.  If it's not WL then it goes on your reminder list.  The help docs even recommend waiting 2 wks before reordering a lost book incase it shows up.

No need to do anything at this time.  If the book is wishlisted, you will go back to the front of FIFO.  If so, check the auto request status as you may wish to delay requesting another copy immediately.

ETA - realized it's a BOB transaction and therefore unlikely to be wishlisted books.

Just to echo what everyone else is saying, if a book goes lost, it is the sender who is loses out, not the requestor.  You don't owe a credit unless you receive the book

Thank you everyone! I'll keep watching for those books...maybe someday they'll make it here!
