I recently asked a member if she'd be interested in doing a deal, as she had 3 books on her shelf I was interested in.  I told her I would be happy to reciprocate with the same deal.  She had never done  a deal before, although she had been a member since 2007, and asked how it worked.  So I explained that I would request 1 book, but she would mail the that book plus the other 2 (freebies) together and that she should request ONLY 1 book from me and I would send the book plus the other 2 freebies together to her.  So on Friday I receive the 1 book I ordered by itself.  Not a case of a loose package where there was a possibility of 2 books falling out, but 1 book wrapped in the typical 2 sheets of paper...  She sent a Thank You in the message portion of the "this book has been received" page, so I know she received the 3 books I sent her (they were wrapped in plastic and covered in brown paper together)

I am not sure how to proceed ...  I am upset thinking I got taken for 2 books...  the book I received I never would have ordered for a credit...

Any suggestions??

I would contact the other member and innocently ask when she will be sending the other two books that were included in the deal.

Maybe something like...

"Dear person, where are the other two books you agreed to send me as part of our deal? I sent you 3-for-1. You said you'd do the same, but there's only one book in the package I received. No fair".

Really though, she may have just had a bunch of books to wrap, and forgot at the moment that yours was supposed to have the freebies. Maybe she mailed them in a seperate package. Maybe she's a bit slow and can't fathom the concept of a 3/1 deal. No way to know unless you ask.

Maybe she mailed them in a seperate package.

I was thinking that, that's why I waited till today, hoping they would be in the mail.  But alas, they weren't.

Consider a gentle reminder Adrienne.  I'm usually very careful about organizing and mailing, but one week last month was rather hectic.  A couple weeks later I ran across a game book with a post-it...forgotten to send *sigh*  I mailed it immediately, of course. But I wouldn't have been offended by a nice reminder from the receiver blush  Real life happens.

How's this-

Dear Name-

I received the book "name" that I requested from you on "date".  Prior to the request we agreed to a 3 paperbacks for 1 credit deal, however I was disappointed to find that you only mailed the requested book and did not include the 2 "freebies".   Since the book arrived on Saturday, and today is Wednesday and the rest of the books haven't arrived,  I am hoping this was a case of "life getting in the way" and was merely an oversite.

-- not sure how to close-

help!

How about ending with --

"Can you let me know when the other two might be arriving?  I'm really looking forward to reading them.  Thanks!"

As for the sender being "slow and unable to fathom," wow that's a bit harsh!  I've never done a deal, either.  If I did agree to do one, I can definitely see where I could totally forget to include the two freebies, especially if I hadn't taken care of it immediately, since I have a routine for wrapping and mailing books.  It's one of those things that would hit me a week later at 2AM and jolt me out of a sound sleep.  LOL

Do you have an RC? I only ask because I got a request for a book which I then declined because of the RC and then noticed the other person had requested 2 other books as part of the deal.  The request automatically went to the next person, but she didn't realize it and was confused when she got the first book but not the freebies.

She thought she sent all 3 and thinks she mailed them to someone else by mistake.  She returned by credit without me having to ask.   Restored my faith in pbs membership-
