This is what happened . . . — I met him at the candy store. He turned around and smiled at me and I was surprised enough to smile back. This was not a children's candy store, mind you—this was the kind of place you went to buy expensive imported chocolate truffles for your boss's wife because you felt guilty for hav...  more »

I am not sure I would categorize this book as a romance. Yes, it does have the requisite HEA (Happy Ever After) but it does have a very dark and disturbed heroine, and reaching that HEA is a very painful trip with one unusual, haunting woman. This story is told in first person by Elle, so we only see her perspective of things. I don't mind the first person narrative, but I know that a lot of people do. This book focuses more about Elle and her internal struggle to forgive herself, for something that has happened in her past. Not the story of her falling in love with Dan, although Dan is the catalyst that pushes Elle to look deep inside herself, and confront her demons.

The one drawback to this book is that we don't learn a lot about Dan. Actually, we receive very little back story on him. I would have liked to know more about Dan and that would have made the story better for me. But what I did know about Dan is that he is a wonderful man and really great for poor, messed-up Elle. Dan was patient with Elle, and really paid attention to all her little quirks. He was quite the hero and very likable. I would have liked to read a more in depth ending between Elle and Dan, but all in all, it was a really beautiful story.

This book is HOT! It actually has a storyline too, which I find rare for erotica!

I bought this book expecting a sexy escape. I got so much more! The sex scenes were very erotic, especially the threesome. The main character is so real and sympathetic. I was very much in her corner and rooting for her to do the emotional work she needed to do to have a "normal" life. Having experienced a similar childhood and a similar loss, I could relate to her in a way I was surprised by. I very rarely cry while reading, but when Elle was telling Dan her story, I cried for her. Even the neighbor was emotionally involving! I literallty could not put this book down. I read it in one afternoon/evening. I felt so attached that I have to wait before starting another book because I keep thinking about the characters and what they went through. I will read anything Megan Hart writes!!

I loved this story. She really goes from a lost, lonely child to a woman. The man who helps her find herself is amazing. Great scenes too. Humor, great writing, family stuff we can all relate to. The layers as Dan unwraps her story are so well told. The side stories of her funny friend at work and the sad neightborhood boy next door, her brother who is the only one who knows the whole story and her sick relationship with her Mom make it more than the typical erotic story. Great read!

As always Megan Hart's erotic novels go far beyond being a steamy read. I love how her characters are so layered and how she can write the hottest sex scenes ever. Its sex, not love making.

Elle is a dirty girl. She sleeps with men, never wanting a relationship. Sometimes not even giving her real name. One night when she goes out with her co-worker and her boyfriend she runs into Dan. A guy she met at a candy shop. The things they did on the dance floor could have melted chocolate.

Dan is described as someone that wears printed ties. Has a fit body and can touch Elle just right. Elle tells him she's not into the dating thing, so don't ask her out. Don't fall for me. She says. I won't. He says. Their subsequent encounters range from Elle coming over in nothing but a trench coat and panties. To sex in a public bathroom.

All the while Dan is trying to figure Elle out. He knows she's a bit more complex than, she just doesn't date. Elle's family is broken and the family secret made me cry when she finally told Dan the whole story (though it may not be so bad. I have been emotional/stressed lately, lol).

Since Tempted I have enjoyed Hart's books, characters and writing. But this one really had it all for me. Elle was broken without being weakened by it. She was a little cold hearted, but she was dealing with a hard issue. I am looking forward to more Megan Hart books!
