I received a book and put it on my tbr pile without opening the book, it was wrapped in saran wrap. I just looked at it and it's extremely water damaged to the point where it's about ready to fall apart, it is hard to read and try to keep it from falling apart. I realize this is my mistake but do I have any recourse. It is a wishlist book.

Send a polite PM to the sender and see what they say.

Chalk it up as a lesson learned and unwrap them when they arrive.   You can ask the sender, but the longer it's been the less that's going to sound reasonable.

No real recourse...it happens to all of us sooner or later. Make sure you check your books over when they arrive, that is your one opportunity to let the sender know there is a problem.

Flobee, when you're done reading it, if it's still WLed, you can offer it up in this thread in the Book Bazaar:

In my time here at pbs I think water damage is probably the number one problem that has happened to me. disappointing when it happens.

The same situation happened to me last week when I took a book from my shelf. I didn't check a book and just marked it received and then went to read it to repost and noticed that the middle had a lot of water damaged pages. My fault for not checking it. I have water damage in my requestor conditions too so that usually keeps the damaged books away. Oh well.

Well I asked her nicely and of course she said it wasn't like that when she sent it out so it is my loss and a lesson learned to check them before I put them away.

Early in my membership, I received a few of those Saran wrapped books and set them aside unopened...with the same results as yourself.  When opened, not all were postable under the plastic.  Lesson learned, inspect all books before logging in b/c afterwards your options are few to none.
