Loved this first book in this series as Mary Connealy continues the stories of the girls from the "Lassoed in Texas" series. Beth returns home to be the town doctor, but a stagecoach accident throws her together with a troubled doctor who has deserted from the Army. I enjoyed finding out more about Sophie and her family. Mandy also has a storyline in this book (she is featured in book 3 of this series), and we also get to see more of Belle and her family (The Husband Tree (Montana Marriages series). I love reading a series where we get to glimpse into the lives of characters in previous books. Can't wait to read books 2 and 3.
From the very first page, Mary Connealy grabbed my attention, and didn't let go! From beginning to end, I enjoyed the fast paced action and adventure. Mary has a wonderful talent for making the reader feel the peril, tension, and emotion that the characters are going through. The story grabs hold of you, and doesn't let you put it down.
Christian Historical fiction set in the "wild west" of the 1800's is at the top of my favorite's list, so Mary's Doctor in Petticoats did not disappoint. The setting comes to life by Mary's ability to paint a vivid picture of the landscape and surroundings. I love it when I feel immersed in the story, and I definitely felt like I was there with Beth, Alex, and the rest of the McClellan clan.
I also appreciate that Mary creates such unique characters, and that Sophie and her daughters are such strong women. I enjoyed the no-nonsense strength and toughness of all three women, and look forward to reading more of their adventures on the wild frontier in books 2 and 3 of the Sophie's Daughters series; Sharpshooter in Petticoats and Wrangler in Petticoats are at the top of my list! If you love stories with action, adventure, cowboys, romance, and faith, you won't want to miss this one!
1st and funniest of Sophie's Daughters series--love Mary Connealy. I love that she combines two series (Lassoed in Texas and Montana Marriages series)and concludes by making a third. You can read them alone but was great to find out what happens to old characters. Really love Beth's story--her funny and familiar attitude toward men. Would recommend to all.
