In order to fill out my Transaction Map, I’m thinking about giving freebies to residents of North Dakota, Wyoming, and Wisconsin.

What’s the best way to do this? If I offer free books to North Dakotans and Wyomingers on the forums, I’m worried that I’ll either get no response or too many responses. I only need to entice one swapper from each state.

I guess I could search the Member Directory and PM random swappers from North Dakota, asking them to order free books from my shelf. But that seems a bit creepy and stalker-y.

Any other ideas? I’d appreciate your input.

Not sure how to go about that--maybe put up some kind of eye-catching post in the Book Bazaar? "Are you from North Dakota? Have I got a deal for you!" Or something like that. LOL I do know that North and South Dakota were two of the last states I had to fill up my map, too.

I would do as Cheryl said. I've seen similar post in the Book Bazaar. Just explain why you're only offering the deal to someone in that state. You can also add that you're only offering to the first poster from each state so as not to be bombarded with tons of orders.

Edited cause I can't spell....need more coffee...

Well, Cheryl and Leslie's ideas sound like the easy way.

A long way is to go to the Member Directory, put in ND and see all the members there - check their WL - Phew!  Lots of work.

Or do a post in Book Bazaar and see if you get responses.

Cheryl R.: I do know that North and South Dakota were two of the last states I had to fill up my map, too.

I finally got a request from South Dakota the other day. On the whole, the number of books I've sent to each state corresponds pretty well with that state's population. I think the Dakotas and Wyoming have the smallest populations, so it makes sense that they're the last holdouts.

North Carolina seems to be the most literate state. I've sent as many books to NC (population 9 million) as I have to California (35 million). Michigan and Virginia are my next biggest customers.

Ooh, I like that idea. It's not very likely that I'll have a book from their WLs, but it wouldn't hurt to take a glance at them. Then I could just grant the North Dakotan's wish as if it were a normal transaction, and she'll have no idea that I'm a creepy stalker. (Unless of course she reads the forums.)

Guess I was lucky as ND was one of the 1st States I mailed a book to!

I'm missing SD, as well.  It's one of the few I have left to send to.

I posted in the BB offering dealings in the subject line for folks in AK, SD, etc.  I think I had to get up to "5 for 1 and a bottle of KC BBQ sauce" to finish out my map :-)  Hawaii was the hardest for me to get.  Here's my old thread, if it helps: http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=102181 You can also see there how long it took me to finish off the list :-)

Good luck!

Cheers,

Catt

You're welcome to check out mine, I don't mind creepy book stalkers ;-) I'd love to help you out,  but I am on a strict WL only book diet as I have a huge TBR pile. I have noticed that very few of the Fargoans hang out in the forums. I have seen a few "neighbors" around though. Good luck on filling out your map, I think that SD and maybe Alaska are the only one's I haven't sent to.
