This diet helped me lose about 20 pounds but it wasn't a sustainable way of eating for me because I don't like a lot of meats. If you really like beef, pork, and other kinds of meats, then you will probably enjoy this diet.
Dr. Atkins' method is one that has worked for many people. A Duke University study indicated that low-carb dieting was more effective than traditional low-fat diets at helping people lose weight and keep it off. This book has some good recipes and some good ideas...however, my husband and I have been much more successful using the South Beach diet. (We've lost over 110 pounds between the two of us on South Beach.)
Dr. Atkins' died because of his eating habits. All of Dr. Atkin's books should be tossed into the recycle bin. The only was to peek health and permanent weight loss is to eat a plant-based diet free of processed foods. It's really just that simple.
I lost 9 lbs in my 1st week! Unfortunately for me, I don't love meat/eggs so much that I could stick with this diet. For the strong-willed, this book is a must if you want to lose some serious poundage!
Have I read this book? No. What I have read are dozens of reviews by other Doctor's on how DANGEROUS this diet is.
The more research that's available shows how dangerous the large consumption of animal products are to your health. Cancer rates soars in countries that adopt our Western diet high in fat and animal protein.
Take this book out from the library, but compare it to others in its field. Also read books by Dr. McDougall, Dr. Dean Ornish, and Dr. Joel Furhman to name a few.
