After Reading the Chronicles and Legends I fell in love with all of the characters even good ole Raistlin. Then I read The Icewind Dale trilogy and fell in love with Drizzt and his trusty side kicks. After reading both and then looking back I dont think I could pick a favorite  Tanis and his crew and Drizzt and his crew...Hard to decide.  So My question is.....Who do you think is better  Tanis's Group or Drizzt's Group?  and Why?

That is probably one of the most universe shattering questions I have ever had to answer. ;) I love Raistlin and Tasslehoff, but I like Drizzt's group better, I think, because I happen to like Forgotten Realms a bit better than I like DragonLance. Also, let us not forget that Drizzt's group contains Drizzt himself. ;)

I agree Drizzt has to be one of my favorite characters.  Tuff question though. I think it would be an awesome story to have tanis and his group meeting up with Drizzt's group now that would be cool.

Drizzt is one of my fav Forgotten Realms characters, although I like Jarlaxle, Entreri, and Gromph more :D

I would have to go with Drizzt and his party in the Forgotten Realms also.  I have read all the Drizzt books except the newest one but the Dragonlance I have only read the first trilogy.  Drizzt is just a serious bad@** when it comes to fighting.

Drizzt and Co. most certainly. DragonLance annoys me on whole, and none of the characters really jump out as individuals. With the possible exception of Wulfgar, drizzt's group just seems more detailed and real

I agree with LadyRedshadow. I've read nearly all of both series, and the only character I like in all of Dragonlance is Raistlin. Everyone else strikes me as very  two-dementional.

Speaking of dragonlance,

I am looking for some on my wish list if anyone wants to part with them.

Take a look :)

Thanks!!!

I can't contribute too much... I haven't read a word of the Dragonlance series.

But I have read all of the Drizzt books (minus the new one -- wishlisted until the MMPB comes out in July!).  I just have a hard time imagining any group of characters I would prefer over Drizzt and Co.

I absolutely adore Drizzt! But i enjoy reading some of the dragonlance series as well. & I loved Pern & the dragons in it. (McCaffrey); Some of the dragon lance authors are far better than others, which is what I have found. So I note the authors I like & follow theirs; but my favoritest of the 2 is Drizzt.

Drizzt & co.  of course.  I'm actually reading the Two Swords right now, and my wife bought me the newest book for Christmas.  One complaint I have about Salvatore's writing is the characters referring to themselves or each other by first name.  For example (not verbatim from the book):

Gerti: What will Obould do now?

Obould: Obould will do what Obould thinks is right.

I cringe every time I read characters speaking this way.  If it was one character, I could let it go, but most of them do that.  Ugh!!

Other than that, very happy with most of the books with Drizzt.   It has been years since I read the Dragonlance books, and I agree that none of the characters really stood out (though I liked Raistlin too).  Some of the Dragonlance Legends books I remember being very good, though.
