I love Sherrilyn Kenyons Dark Hunter series, but I must confess I was hesitant to read this book. I'm so glad I did! I really enjoyed it. I finished in two sittings. While in my opinion the majority of the Dark Hunter books are deeper and darker, this was still worth the read. I really like how she tied up the other books with this one from the "past",

Kenyon weaves together humor and hubris in the first book in a new series. As a dream-god who can't feel emotions, Arik doesn't understand the consequences of what he does until it's too late. His struggle to understand the emotions he feels for the first time are sometimes humorous, but Kenyon doesn't turn him into a laughing-stock, at least most of the time. He is truly baffled by the differences between the human world and the dream world.

The exchanges between Arik and his "brother" Solin are filled with typical Kenyon barbed humor. I actually laughed out loud several times.

As a stand-alone, this is an interesting book, blending mythology, fantasy and reality. As part of the Dark-Hunter universe, this is actually set before at least Night Pleasures (Book #2). Don't be tempted to read it first, though. There are some serious spoilers, especially in the last few chapters, such as who Ash really is. There are also things you probably won't get unless you've read the Dark-Hunter books through at least Seize the Night.

An intriguing start to Kenyon's Dream Hunter series, this book blends mythology with an exciting romance. For long time fans, there are also references to the Dark Hunter books and that "universe." An entertaining and gripping read.

In this mix of fantasy and romance, Arikos is a dream god condemed to live in a world without emotions by the God Zeus. The only time he can feel any emotions is when he is inhabiting the dreams of others. He is drawn to the dreams of Dr. Megeara Kafieri. Megeara "Geary" only relaxes in her dreams. In the real world, she is continuing her father's quest for Atlantis. The quest that ended up destorying her father. Arikos is so drawn to Megeara that he makes a deal with Hades, two weeks of being human in exchange for one human soul - Mageara's.

I really liked the way that Arikos struggles with the differences between dreams and reality. He truly doesn't understand why Geary doesn't react to him the same way she does in her dreams. He's totally clueless about the mundane things in life - the things that people skip over in their dreams.

Good book! Lots of references to Greek mythology and gods which make it fun. Summary: Arikos, who only lives in others dreams strikes a deal to be a human for 2 weeks to meet and romance a woman with remarkable dreams. The woman who is in search of Atlantis, is not as remarkable in everyday life however and so he helps her with her search to try to set her free.

I was hesitant to read The Dream Hunter, because reviews of the other Dream-Hunter books were not so great. But I actually really enjoyed this book, more so I think because I read every other book in the DH series up to this point (including Acheron and One Silent Night) before reading this. Since time-wise this story takes place before even the first Dark-Hunter book, it was really cool to revisit old characters (Kyrian, Nick, Zarek, Ash) when you know what is going to happen to them later in the series. What happens at the end of this book sets everything else in the series in motion as we see how Ash really first doomed Nick to his fate.

As for the love story, it was typical Kenyon. As always, the play on Greek myths was fun. I enjoyed Arik more than Geary, and I loved his confusion with the real world as compared to the dream world. You don't think about it, but in dreams you really don't dream of underwear (unless you're dreaming you got stuck in public in just your underwear), or anything else mundane. I also liked Solin--there's a lot more to him than his snide exterior--and would like to see a story about him in the future. All and all, it was not as deep as the DH books but it's a good fast read that I finished in one sitting.

I just could not "get into" Ms. Kenyon's mythology as easily as I can some other authors'. Immortal Atlantean warriors who can see into people's dreams. Good Atlanteans, not bad, but jaded Atlanteans - they feel like Olympian gods, but they are too arrogant for me to sympathize with them.

SK has a lot of fans, however, so this might just be your cup of tea.

I almost didn't read this book (the Prologue just didn't hold my attention), but I am SO glad I gave this book a second chance. It was an interesting change of pace to switch from Dark-Hunter stories to those of the Dream-Hunters and I really enjoyed the snappy dialouge and dry wit between the brothers. I hope one day we learn Solin's story.

Sherrilyn Kenyon "calls this one in" from her typewriter. The story sounds good -- a fantasy about a Dream Hunter who can enter the dreams of others, who falls in love with a mortal. That's where the interest ends. Kenyon confuses the story with a subplot of a search for Atlantis from the Agean Sea, Greek Mythology, and her Dream-Hunter hierarchy of magical beings (there's like 6 different levels of beings . . . and these guys were cursed by Zeus . . . yet Zeus is afraid of them because even gods have to fall asleep sometime . . . ugh).

The story is way too sex-based -- it seems that's all the main character does in her dreams is hook up with this leather-pants-wearing male model wannabe (leather pants! I'm surprised Kenyon doesn't match his ensemble with a Member's Only jacket with his bare chest peeking out for goodness' sake!).

The "heat" between the two main characters is supposed to distract from the fact that the storyline itself is convoluted and silly. Come on -- don't strong, modern women who cross the Agean Sea searching for Atlantis do anything in their dreams but "the nasty"?? Where's the depth to this woman?

The Dream Hunter wants to find her in Real Life as a Mortal, but why? So he can have sex with her in person, of course. In fact, he cares so little for her that he sells her soul to Hades in exchange for two weeks as a mortal (can you say "The Little Mermaid"?).

Save your credits for something better.

Of all the Sherrilyn Kenyon books I've read so far, this was my least favorite. It took me four days to get through it. (Normally, her books take only 1 to 2 days for me to read.) It ended well, but I get the feeling this book was written a while ago. The development of her main male characters in other books has been better. It seemed like a lot of the story at the end was added as an afterthought to "force" the two series (Dark Hunter and Dream Hunter) to overlap.

I was surprised to learn that time line wise, this book is set before Night Pleasures (The 2nd dark hunter book). Kenyon's intro to the dream hunter world on her web page was set after book 11 of her dark hunters. This was actually a prequel. It will be interesting to see how the Dream Hunter world affects the Dark Hunter world since the story on her page had a Oneroi messing with Nick to keep him angry.

As for the book itself, the first half was very predictable a boring. I actually set it down and read 2 more books before going back to finish it. The second half Kenyon seemed to hit her stride again and was much better. I am now looking forward to the next book.

This was better than I thought it would be but it did take me a little bit longer to really get pulled into this story. Once you start getting into the "meat" of the story line it's quite well written and flows nicely. I kept looking at this book over and over before I finally decided to order it, and I can't say it was a bad choice, I'd still recommend it since it's a definitely different type of story within the paranormal/ancient gods type of stories.

So I've been reading the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon and this Dream-Hunter is a setup to one of the Dark-Hunters. It's supposed to be read between a few of the Dark-Hunter books.

For me The Dream-Hunter was not that great. It was short, which I was grateful for, but it lacked what the other books had for me.

This book was about Arikos and Megeara. Arik is an ex Oenroi, now a Skotos who can only feel emotions when in other people's dreams. He lives in the dream realm and is supposed to help people by taking some of their emotions and dulling them so that they're not that strong. He runs across a vivid dreamer Dr. Megeara Kafieri.

Geary is searching for the lost kingdom of Atlantis. She picked up where her father left off. Arik makes a deal with Hades to become human and agrees before he learns that after his two weeks are up he must bring Geary's soul to Hades. And blah blah blah.

I had no connection to any of the characters in this series. I was almost rooting for the bad guy to end it and put me out of my misery. Well, I guess it wasn't as bad as that, but I could definitely have done without this side story. I don't really need all this build up to the main Dark-Hunter story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I have been going through some difficult personal times, and this book allowed me to escape reality. It is my first venture into Sherrilyn Kenyon's work, but it will not be the last.

It tells the story of a Skotos, a dream god, who makes a deal with Hades to become human to feel human emotions and to be with the woman he is so passionate with in dreams. The human is in search of the lost city of Atlantis - a promise she made to her father on his deathbed.

The story wasn't written particularly well. It wasn't great literature by any means, but it was very entertaining. It was something to get lost in. It had passion, adventure, and a sense of fantasy.

I look forward to reading Dream-Hunter, Bk 2. If anyone has it, let me know. :)

I love the Dark Hunter series and am usually grabbed by the story within the first few pages! This book took me until about page 40 for me to be invested in the characters! Once I was invested, I couldn't put it down and enjoyed it thoroughly. This story is about Arik and Megeara who are an unlikely pair - but you find yourself routing for them! The story also adds more to the Greek mythology of the Dark Hunter series and gives you insight to the series as a whole. And of course, you find out a little bit more about Acheron - because let's face it - we all love to find out more about him! I recommend this one and can't wait to read more of the series!

Not a Dark-Hunter, but of their world, this is about Arikos, condemned by the gods to live forever without emotions. He can only feel when he is in the dreams of others but it is forbidden to revisit the same person over and over. What happens when Arikos finally enters the dreams of Dr. Megeara Kafieir and becomes involved in her search for proof of Atlantis for the sake of her father's reputation makes a great story. Akin to but different from the DH series.

Simply not very good. The Dark-Hunter series is better, although Kenyon pales in comparison to Ward, and Showalter, Adrian, Ione, Frank and Frost are also better writers. Kenyon is prolific, though, so if you want a series that will lightly divert you for awhile, her Dark-Hunter world works.

This wasn't so great to me. It seemed really cartoonish. Maybe the later books in the series get better. One huge problem I have with these kinds of stories is that in dealing with a charachter who is more than 1200 years old (TWELVE HUNDRED YEARS folks!)one would hope that they would grow and evolve a little. Unfortunately Arik, the ancient god in this story seemed as immature as a man just out of his teen years. I wasn't really into either character, and they were so 2 dimensional I barely finished the book. Oh, well....

Really liked it, but I may be bias in that I am a true Sherrilyn Kenyon fan. Another hit for me.

This was not too bad. I was expecting the typical romance novel but I was pleasantly surprised with a good meaty story. I really liked all the Greek mythology. I'm thinking I might check out the other books in this series.

I didn't read very far into it. It was trashy.

It was a great book. This actually takes place before all the Dark Hunter Books, This is 5 years before Wulf and Cassandras story cuz Katra is in this book as a guardian of sorts to keep Geary away from the seal to break out Applomi and also Nick towards the end is 18 and Kyrian hasn't met Amanda. Arik is a dream god, Geary is on a hunt for Atlantis that her father, and brother, aunt and uncle been on the hunt for the lost city and lost their lives in the discovery of the city. Geary has her cousins Thia and Tori(Ash's future wife) to help her out for the city, plus Geary has a side effect of generics but he can hear the voices of the Gods. Arik finds Geary in her dreams and has been seeing her for a few months and it gets in frustrated that Geary is able to pull away from him and now hes desperate to be human and understand why Geary can pull away from him and also to feel emotions as a human. Geary finds out about Gods, Dark Hunters and bad things in one night.

Love all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's work..

Condemned by the gods to live eternity without emotions, Arikos can only feel when he's in the dreams of others. For thousands of years, he's drifted through the human unconscious, searching for sensation. Now he's finally found a dreamer whose vivid mind can fill his emptiness.

Dr. Megeara Kafieri watched her father ruin himself and his reputation as he searched to prove Atlantis was real. Her deathbed promise to him to salvage his reputation has now brought her to Greece where she intends to prove once and for all that the fabled island is right where her father said it was. Instead, she finds a stranger floating in the sea -- one whose face she's seen many times...in her dreams.

What she doesn't know is that Arik holds more than the ancient secrets that can help her find the mythical isle of Atlantis. He has made a pact with the god Hades: In exchange for two weeks as a mortal man, he must return to Olympus with a human soul -- Megeara's.

This is a good continuation of the world of gods and demons Sherrilyn Kenyon has written about in her other books.
