I have only read to page 44, but this book is SO funny!  I am really enjoying it !  It's about a mom and 4 kids traveling cross country U.S. in the 1950s to meet their husband/father, who has settled in California and is waiting for them.  Along the way, the Mom makes alot of side trips and stops all over the U.S.!  She is very chatty so usually makes friends with whatever eccentric she meets!

The oldest kid is 15 year old Becky Jean and her Mom is SUCH an embarassment!  :o)

This book reminds me a bit of Anne Tyler's "Breathing Lessons"-the one where a couple is traveling to go to a funeral and Maggie meets up with all sorts of people on the way and is kind of...an airhead...in a nice way, of course!

Anyway, just wanted to share about this fun novel.  I'll have to post again when I finish the book.

PS-Linda Bruckheimer is the wife of Jerry Bruckheimer, who is a movie...director?  Producer?  Someone in Hollywood, anyway.  I could just see this book made into a movie.

Finished the book-very disappointed.  I didn't like the huge jump the story took from Part 2 to Part 3, and the ending left me hanging-I even checked to see if some of the last pages had been ripped out!  It seemed like the author was having fun with the story, then realized she'd have to have an ending so just...stopped!  AGH!

Big disappointment-NOT a hidden gem, more like a lump of coal.
