Hi all,

Kinda new here.  I, for whatever reason, cannot figure how to use the "wish list" feature.  When I click on the yellow "wish list" icon on my account page, it just says "there are no items in your wish list".  Well, no kidding.  I just don't know how to add books to my wish list.  Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!

Click on a book description.  On that page you can see the title, isbn, description, reviews, etc.  You can either order it (button on top right) if it's in the system.  Or below that, below the Post button, a button to add it to your wish list (WL) if there are no copies available.  You can see how may others are wishing for it too, before you add it and it'll put you next in line.  If there are copies available but you don't actually want to order it right now, put it in your reminder list (RL).   That will show how many copies are in the system.  If there are only a couple you can think about ordering it just in case those copies get 'gobbled' up :-)  You can always remove things from your WL if you want, but if you do that you lose your place in line.

Thanks much for your reply/help, Linda.  I was trying to add a book called "Maggie Now" by Betty Smith to my wishlist.  But, it doesn't seem to come up when I type in the title or author.   I have two credits, so would order it if it was available, but since it's not in the system, it doesn't look like I can add it to a wish list (or am I still missing something?-- sorry if I'm being lame!)

Karen,  can you find it on Amazon?  Open a second window ( just go to any book description page and click on the right side, order from Amazon).  On Amazon website find the book and scroll down to the ISBN and copy it.  Come back to your PBS window and go back to the book search, paste it in the search box.  It should come up that way.  I do this all the time to find all the versions of the book, since Amazon lists if both a PB and  HC are available and I just want read it, no matter what format!

When you search for a book on PBS, be sure that you are searching "all books", not just "posted books" (which seems to be the default). "All books" will bring up every version in the system, even if none are available to order.

Another thing about searching. If you search by title in the big search box at the top of most pages, the default setting is for Posted Books, which means books that ARE in the system and available now. This is why you will want to change that to All (look for a drop down box on the left side of the results page near the top). You can also go into Search, Advanced Search and specify many other options - such as you want it to search by title, not keyword (some books with a different title come up under keyword searchs).

Overall, the best way to figure out how to do stuff on PBS is to go to the Help Center (button at the top of the page) and read the FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions. Then, if you still have questions, ask your Tour Guide (that's why they volunteer - to help). I think of the Discussion Forum as a last resort for questions (and a first stop for WTFs and complaints - grin).

There is also the Live Help on the bottom of the page.  That will take you to a Tour Guide that is currently on line and available to answer questions through personal messages.  Just in case your Tour Guide is off line.

Here's how to find and wish list "Maggie-Now".

1) Type the words Maggie Now in the search box at the upper right corner of the screen and click Search

2) Look over the results and realize that the book you want isn't on the list. Click on the link that says "Don't see the book you're looking for?" to add all the items that are not available to the results.

3) Page through the new results looking for the book. Make sure to glance at the ISBN when you find the book. You'll notice that there are several copies of this book that have a short ISBN-13 and no ISBN-10. Don't wish for these. These entries were added to the database by members who were posting their books without an ISBN, and you won't be able to get them by wishing for them. When you see a book that has both an ISBN-13 and an ISBN-10, click on the +Wish button next to it. In this case, the ISBNs you can wish for are 9780892440542, 9780060800987and 9780060870119.

However, since there are several non-ISBN listings for both "Maggie-Now" and "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn / Maggie-Now : Two Novels", that should give you an idea that this book was most likely published before there were ISBNs, and therefore it's likely to be posted without an ISBN again. So in addition to adding the three valid ISBNs to your wish list, you should occasionally search for the title just to see if anyone has posted it recently.
