Hello. Newbie here.  I have more than one paperback copy of several books.  Most were gifts.  All are NEW.  I can't seem to list more than one copy of the same book.  WHY NOT?  I posted this once and asked for private help with no responses as yet.  It's been a week or so.  How long does it take to get a simple question answered?

You will have to wait until one copy is marked mailed before you can post another one.

From the Help Center:

Can I post multiple copies of the same book?

No. We allow a member to Post only one copy of a book at a time.

  • If you have two versions of a book (same title but different ISBNs):
    • you may post both, as some members will request different versions of the same book through Wish Lists, etc.
  • But duplicate ISBNs cannot coexist on your bookshelf.
  • You may post one copy at a time
  • Once you have mailed the first copy you can post another copy.
  • This rule is in place to give all members a chance at getting their copies requested.

You can only list one copy of a book at a time.  You can do a hardbound and a paperback of the same book, but not 2 HB or 2 paperbacks.  After one is requested and the person received it, you can post another copy.

I remember answering this question for you before as well. People dont' usually answer in personal messages.  They post to the thread. You can search the forums for your posts and see the responses you got. I'm on a laptop with no mouse right now and can't do a link or I'd find the thread for you and post a link.

If you really want to get rid of your duplicates, you can post a deal in the Book Bazaar. Tell people what you have as freebies, then say they can get one of them with a purchase off your shelf. So, for example, if you have four hundred copies of "The Client" by John Grisham, say something like "Get a free copy of 'The Client' with a request from my shelf, just PM me to let me know." True, you're giving it away "free" but you'll get some shelf-orders perhaps and also move out some books. If the books you have duplicates of are heavily listed in the system already, it could be a VERY long time until someone requests from you via the FIFO.

Not 100% correct---you have to wait until the book is marked as RECEIVED before you can post another copy.

I've always posted my second copy once I marked it mailed. Has it changed? The Help docs still say once you've mailed too ??? I haven't had a duplicate too recently.

Sorry for the duplication of the post folks.  Really.  I got lost and could not find the darn thing.  You know?  YIKES!

Again, sorry.  You've all been great to get this answered and thanks so much for all your attention to this matter.

It's hard to get around at a new site (in the beginning) so all us newbies usually have more questions than brains (at first anyhowsen).

A Hearty Thanks.

I've always been able to post a duplicate book as soon as the first one is marked mailed. A few months ago, I bought four copies of one WL book and six copies of another at a sale. The day I mailed one copy, I'd post another.

Eileen, Please feel free to ask any questions.  I remember being a newbie myself at one time and had a bunch of questions.  Most folks on this site are really nice.

Silly me, I thought the system was set so us ditzes couldn't accidentally post the same book twice, then have nothing to send when the second is requested!

Could you post in the forums that you have multiple copies, in case somebody wanted several for class or a reading club?
