Emphasis is on verb tenses, vocabulary, parts of speech, active and passive voice, weights and measures. Lesson 14 briefly teaches the proper way to write a letter at that time. Lesson 18 teaches how to use the British money system of pounds, shillings, farthings, pence, and half-crowns (before it changed to a decimal system of pounds and pennies in the 1970s)
