Hey guys - Quick question.  It was my understanding that ebooks were not allowed on here.  I just received the notice that one of my wishlists book was in.  Once I accepted it, I received an email that she only had the ebook format and not the printed that she would send me that.  Have they changed the rules on me? I'm pretty easy going about book conditions and things like that  but this kind of bothered me. I really don't like to read books on computer unless I have to!!!  Also, does it make a diffrence who cancels the order?  Thanks

No, eBooks are not allowed.  This is from the Help Center:

Not allowed:

  • Anything that is not a book (this includes calendars, coloring books, blank journals)
  • Anything that contains advertising
  • Advance Reader Copies (also known as ARC s, Review Copies or Uncorrected Proofs--these are not the final versions of books)
  • CD-ROM books/e-books (books that must be read on a computer)
  • Burned copies of audio books
  • Xerox or otherwise unoriginal copies of books
  • Unbound pages
  • leaflets or pamphlets or booklets* without ISBNs (other members complain at spending a credit for these)
  • Brochures/Promotional "first chapters" of books - these are not complete books, even if they have an ISBN
  • Books that require supplementary non-media materials (non-media materials cannot be sent by MediaMail)
  • Pornography (sex manuals and erotica are allowed, hardcore pornography is not allowed.

Since it is a wishlist book, she needs to cancel the order - otherwise, you'll get removed from the list and have to go to the back of the WL line.

That's not postable. It's also not legal to run off copies on discs and give them away or sell them.  She needs to cancel or you will lose your place in the WL line. I would PM her and tell that she needs to cancel and that these are not postable and that she might even be breakign copywrite laws.

I wish we could swap ebooks but the rules are clear on that.  Ebooks clearly say on them that they are not transferrable.  I'd quote what Ashely posted from the Help Center and ask the other member to cancel the transaction.  If they do not, then use the "contact us" link at the bottom of this page to send the PBS team a note about this.  They can see the PM in your inbox and can cancel the transaction and make sure you get back to #1 on the WL.

I'm also agreeing, it's my understanding that the transferring/resale of e-books is illegal.  There's a reason it's not one of the formats PBS members can choose from when posting books.

???

Why do people keep bumping these old threads?

my guess is that the "new member" who bumped the thread thought that he/she could post the free ebooks advertised in the signature line of the post and get credit for them....www.plrprivatelabelrights.com

is a site for privately published ebooks....

The things need to be sorted out because it is about the individual but it can be with everyone.

not sure what you mean by that, but the ebook question has been sorted out, they are not allowed.

I had that thought too.  spambots are about as common as purple polka dotted unicorns around here... weird.

TPTB appear to have edited the 'bot'
