I just entered a book that did not have an ISBN.  After I entered it in the system, I realized I had entered a partial title. When I tried to edit the book data, the database would not recognize the 5-digit ISBN that was assigned.  How can I edit the book data?

Delete the book from your bookshelf, and re-enter the correct information.

Just goes to show how much more informed our members are from nearly 2 yrs ago. When I first joined, I entered my initial books, then a bit later entered some more, one of which was a non-ISBN book. I asked in the forums what to do to fix this book, since I had messed up the listing (think it was something wrong in the title or author, don't remember anymore),

I was sent to the Chat from the forums, and they had no clue. I don't remember who the people where in the Chat those first couple days, but the others referred to two of them as experts that were most often the persons to know the answers. They gave various suggestions, none of which worked. I somehow finally guessed by myself that the only solution was to delete it and re-enter it. And today, I'm just amazed that back then it took 2 days and no one answered me, you got an answer in 14 minutes! Too cool, how much more involved our members have become.

I've seen it throughout the forums, people answering questions constantly, instead of the questioner having to send in feedback, which used to take a long time, no offense to R&R but they now have some helpers on various issues, ie  the Tour Guides are a tremendous asset, but the members in general just seem to spend enough time on the forums to know the ins and outs of the site and are willing to pass it on to others.

Just thought I"d share this thought. Just musing :)

Just be aware that you cannot add an image to the no-ISBN book at this time.  The link on the post-a-new-book (no ISBN) that allows you to post an image is broken and has been for quite some time, with no plans at this time to fix it as far as I can tell.

The link at the bottom of PBS pages, Upload Book Covers, is also temporarily broken.  There was a server overcrowding issue a few weeks ago that also had the unfortunate effect of messing up the imaging upload process and this still has not yet been corrected, although this problem is one that they are working to fix.

So, you'll have to be patient to get an image to go along with your newly posted no-ISBN book.

Thanks Sheri.  I did what you suggested.  I was just trying to keep a bogus book title from the database.  Oh well :o|

As a matter of fact, you can't upload an image to any book right now. Well, you can upload it, but it's just gonna sit there, nothing is going thru, and we've no word on what the problem is or when it's going to be fixed :(  I just keep collecting them on my hard drive, and and I'll swamp myslef and the other approvers when it gets fixed. hahahaha probably even cause another issue!

Sherry,

I suppose this is pointless, but my book has the same cover image as one in the system (pb).  Any way to hook those up?  I was wondering about it anyway instead of uploading the same thing 2x.

I'm beginning to wish I'd just given this away, lol.

hahaha no, sorry, you have to upload it for each ISBN in the system. At least you don't have to do anything or look for a copy of the image since it's already here, you just copy it down, then upload it. (Whenever image uploads get going again, that is.)
