I enjoyed The Embers of Heaven. It's well written, with a strong and interesting main character, and a lot of political ideology and intrigue. It did take a while to get into it, as I was trying to figure out where it takes place. Once I realized that it is meant to be a fantasy set in a world very similar to China I was able to get into it more. It is worth reading, and I'm not interested in reading more of Alma Alexander's books.
