Why the same books under two different names I'll never get...

For those interested in exotic settings in the east and British imperialism might want to give these books a gander. I'm halfway through Beyond all Frontiers and enjoying it a lot. 19C India, Afghan wars, etc. Not quite MM Kaye, but still very good so far. I've also got Forget the Glory out from the library which is set during the Crimean War. More info on the books at these two sites.

Don't forget to check your library and/or interlibrary loan.

Oh, Misfit, why must you tempt me so??? I'm beginning to believe that you have a secret vendetta against me in which you hope, and maybe even plot and plan!, for the weight of my book room to cause a sinkhole in the earth which will devour all of my books....

I do love me some MM Kaye.... So, have you read the one about the Crimean War yet? I'm really interested in that one!

Valli, I just started the one on the Crimean War. Plans are for it to be my treadmill book and got about 30 some pages this morning. The male lead is a second or third son of an Earl, disgraced and quite the Flashman like daredevil soldier. The female lead is the wife of a lowly footsoldier. Interesting so far, and these *wives* lead a very sorry life.

I finished Beyond all Frontiers last night. What a page turner once things started collapsing in Afghanistan.

So sorry to corrupt you. Not devil

Valli, I found The Jade Alliance under the Darrell name at the library catalog. Placing a hold.

Reading Scarlet Shadows with a friend at Goodreads. Crimean War. Her husband's a pompous ass and she's in love with his foster brother. Hope the cholera gets him devil (the husband)

You see why I can't do challenges. It is so easy to side track me. All those books in my house and all I want to do is read her's.

The copy of "Jade Alliance" I requested has already been accepted, so it looks like I'll have this one soon, too. My request for "Beyond All Frontiers" was canceled so it's on my wishlist now. I'm still waiting to see if my request for "A Question of Honour" is accepted. Surely one of these requested Drummond books will actually make it's way to me. I sure hope so! I love a good family saga, especially British ones.

You'll have to let me know which of the two set during the Crimean War is the best.

Will do Valli. My "buddy reader" made an interesting observation about her characters, dialogue. They not only speak properly for the period, there's a lot of good bite that comes with it. Must run, she got ahead of me whilst I was slaving away at the office.

My copy of "Jade Alliance" has been mailed! Yay! I have a bad feeling about the other one I have requested - "A Question of Honour" - and I'm afraid it is going to time out and also be canceled. (The account hasn't had any activity in a long while, but maybe they'll surprise me.)

This is kind of pathetic if you think about it....I requested four of Drmmond's/Darrell's books and it looks like I'm only going to end up with one of the books. Those are not great odds. ;-)

If I really like Jade alliance, I'm going to add the others to my Amazon cart and buy them after Christmas with the gift certs I'm sure to get.

BTW - There is a copy of "Dragon of Destiny" available here, but I'm not sure what this one is about yet. I think I might add some of the descriptions from that site I posted about to the book pages here at PBS.

Valli, I put a hold at the library for Jade Alliance and the first in the Knightsbridge trilogy. She is habit forming. Almost done with Scarlet Shadows and it's going on my keeper shelf.

Cathy -- I sure hope you're referring to the MC and not your friend.wink

LOL, Deb! You had the exact thought I did when I read that post. Great minds and all that... ;-)

Late last night, I found and requested another Darrell book, "And in the Morning", but I can't remember what it is about now. I'm getting carried away, aren't I?

Ya know, I have met Michele's husband yet, but he sounds kinda nice. He lets her buy all the books she wants cheeky

I just finished Scarlet Shadows and loved it. Working on a review now. I would definitely recommend this to those new to the Crimean War as it will give you a good basic understanding of the major facts. This one puts the reader right in the thick of the Charge of the LIght Brigade. Scary stuff. There is a strong romance between the two MC's, but despite the lurid cover there really isn't any sex to speak of.

Valli, I'm out of control as well. I am seriously hoping one of the two I've placed holds on show up at the lib today. I'm looking at all these other books I have to read and all I want is another Drummond.

I just got a pristine hard bound copy of Forget the Glory.  The dust jacket has one little tear.  Very nice cover art, oriental in style.

Jerelyn, nice job. BTW one of the secondary characters in Scarlet Shadows was named Letty. Sounded slightly familar.

I was bummed, I stopped at the lib hoping my hold for The Jade Dragon was in. Not angry

Does the Letty in Scarlet Shadows have glorious auburn hair with cinnamon highlight and green eyes?  Is she spirited and witty does she kick butt?  oh sorry I got carried away. cheeky

I got my copy of The Jade Alliance today!  I'm still waiting on A Question of Honour and The Bridge of A Hundred Dragons to be accepted, but at least I have one of the books here to try now. Yay!

I'm going to start it right after I finish the book I'm reading now.

Letty, let me know what you think of Forget the Glory...

So Cathy are you telling me she is earthy and courageous?  I hope she is likable, I read a book recently and the Letty in that book was horrible!crying

Valli, I will let you know.

Valli, cool. I have The Jade Alliance on hold at the library and picked up A Question of Honour and The Gathering Wolves at the lib today.

Watch, you all will hate her. I just know it crying

LOL, Misfit! Maybe we will hate her, doubt it though!, but we'll still be glad you mentioned her and we got to try someone new. Well, that is how I'll feel. Letty might hang you up by your toes and tickle you til you cry. She's a brutal one, our Letty. ;-)

Actually, I've already read the first 2 chapters of Jade Alliance and had to make myself put it down to go back to the book I'm trying to finish for the challenge.

I just wish I could get my hands on the two Crimean ones! Another one I requested, A Question of Honour" is going to be canceled tonight if the sender doesn't accept the request and I really don't think it will be accepted. That just sucks!

Valli, I think I saw Scarlet Shadows going for a penny on Amazon. With shipping that's almost the same as a PBS point isn't it? Or is it the challenge of *winning* the score?

So far she's three for three and really sucks you in and doesn't let you go. The dialogue is awesome as well as her knowledge of the pecking order and all things British military.

I think all of her books are going pretty cheap at Amazon and I have definitely thought about going that route. I actually have several of her books in my cart!

But, I'm trying to hold out on buying any books until after Christmas. I always get gift cards from family members and it feels silly to spend my money on more books when I have so many here unread.

So, I'm going to try hanging on for another month. Maybe I'll get lucky and some more of her books will be posted before them and I'm first in line for the 2 I really want....Ya never know, I might get lucky!

I really do think I'm going to love her writing style. I'm definitely going to buy the ones I want with my gift certs if I don't get them from here first.

I wonder if there's any at Book Mooch...Has anyone checked there? I don't have an account there anymore.

Valli, I've checked BM and outside of one of the more obscure ones there wasn't much there.

I'm working on The Gathering Wolves under the Darrell name but it isn't rocking my world yet. Hopefully things will change when the former Imperial Ballerina shows up...

*Edit* The Jade book just landed at my library's hold shelf. Yipee!.

Valli, just a quick FYI if and when you do get your gift card and order this. There were two with sellers using the Fulfilment by Amazon feature, and those work towards your free Super Saver Shipping. The price is a bit higher than the $.01 of the others, but then you won't get the $3.99 shipping costs they'll charge. I recently used this method on some old OOP's I'd been wanting when I get a $25 GC and it worked out well. Bonus - they went first class (with tracking numbers) instead of media mail.

Thanks for checking at BM, Cathy! Oh, well, it was worth a try...!

My request for "A Question of honour" was canceled last night. Boo. Hiss. My request for "The Bridge of A Hundred Dragons" will cancel tomorrow if it isn't accepted before then. I'm just not having much luck in getting these books from here. Looks like I'll definitely be heading to Amazon for them.

Looking for the "Amazon Fulfilled" copies is a good idea. I just realized they did that a few months ago.

What is "Gathering Wolves" about? I didn't even see that one on the list.

I only have about 50 more pages in the book I'm reading, so I should be ready to start Jade tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it!!
